Chairman Busse called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.

Also Present: John Malcolm, Fire Chief (Excused from the meeting at 5:50 p.m.)

FIREFIGHTER TESTING PRESENTATION /DISCUSSION
Chad Legel, President of Selection Works, provided the Board with an overview of the new firefighter -
hiring bill, Illinois Public Act 97 -0251. After reviewing the act, he provided the Board with suggestions of
how to apply the act to the new hire testing process for the fire department. Mr. Legel then discussed a
situation -based styles assessment tool that could be administered to all candidates at the same time the
written exam is administered. Mr. Legel discussed the option of conducting an oral interview as part of
the background investigation. These items and the remaining components of the hiring process will be
discussed further with the Board's attorney at the February 6 Board of Fire and Police Commissioners
meeting.
With no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner Bennett and seconded by Commissioner
Skowron to adjourn the meeting at 7:07 p.m.
