HomeMy WebLinkAbout02/28/2011 CCC MinutesMinutes Village of Mount Prospect Citizen Corps Council February 28, 2011 3:00 PM Village of Mount Prospect Emergency Operation Center The meeting was called to order by Chief Malcolm at 3:11 PM. Those present: Mayor Wilks Fire Chief John Malcolm Police Chief John Dahlberg Bryan Loomis John Astreides Marcia McMahon Carol Lively A motion was made by Chief Malcolm to approve the minutes of the December 28, 2010 meeting. Carol Lively had one change - to change NACCO grant to NACCHO grant. The change was made and the motion was seconded by Carol Lively, motion passed. There were no citizens to be heard. New Business Carol Lively updated the group about the status of the Medical Reserve team. The team now has approximately 225 members. The group will be meeting in the near future. John Astreides asked if the CERT team could be made aware when the MRC group was meeting, as this would allow the CERT team members to be introduced to the MRC team members. Carol advised when the MRC group meets it would be forwarded to Bryan Loomis and he would then forward the meeting dates to the CERT team. Chief Malcolm advised that the village and fire department have received the grant to purchase a fire extinguisher training system to be used for CERT training and the Village's Emergency Preparedness Training Program. Bryan Loomis provided a brief update on how the extinguisher system was designed and was going to be used in the future. Chief Malcolm advised that the fire department is continuing to look for funding grants for emergency preparedness and equipment. Chief Malcolm updated the group of the February winter storm operations. The Chief also advised that because of the storm the village table top drill scheduled for March has been moved to April. Old Business Chief Malcolm gave an update on the CERT team and the expansion. The CERT team currently has expanded to 40 members to meet the village's specific emergency needs. The team will be trained in specific areas such as down power lines, traffic control, and fire incident responses. Each team member will be issued updated clothing to include a vest, hat, polo shirt and identification card. John Astreides asked if the new clothing would be issued or if a stipend system could be used. Bryan Loomis advised that a quartermaster system would be used for any new equipment. John also asked if there would be any design standardization of equipment and if a village logo could be provided for the hats for the group. Chief Malcolm and Bryan Loomis advised they would look into standardization of equipment with Jim Miller. Chief Malcolm also gave an update on the emergency operation center (E.O.C.). Audio visual work would be started in March to finish the audio visual equipment for the facility. Chief Malcolm and Bryan Loomis provided an update on the previous issue of how to better communicate emergency information with the businesses in Mount Prospect. The Everbridge System and information boxes located throughout the village will be used more widely. Bryan Loomis advised the group that the fire department was in the process of developing emergency preparedness info for the business community to be distributed during annual fire inspections. Mayor Wilks gave an update on a recent meeting she had with civic organizations in regards to emergency preparedness. A group discussion followed on emergency preparedness and the general public. Motion for adjournment was made by Chief Dahlberg and seconded by Chief Malcolm, motion passed and the meeting adjourned at 4:07 P.M. The date of the next meeting will be November 7 at 3:00 p.m. at the Village of Mount Prospect Emergency Operation Center.
