A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION TO DR. SHIRLEY F. SMALLEY
FOR SERVICE TO THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT
WHEREAS, early on, DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY recognized the importance of education and
devoted herself to educating our country's youth for some thirty~seven years, during which she
held positions of science teacher, assistant principal, principal, assistant superintendent of
educational service and superintendent, including eight years at River Trails School District 26;
and
WHEREAS, DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY was warmly welcomed as a resident of Prospect Heights
in 1994 when she accepted the position of Superintendent of River Trails School District 26, an
elementary district serving approximately 2,000 students from northern Mount Prospect and
Prospect Heights; and
WHEREAS, during DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY's tenure with River Trails School District 26,
significant improvements were instituted in the general curriculum, special education and
English as a Second Language (ESL) programs, benefiting all children of District 26, no matter
what their educational needs. Also, a number of important capital improvement projects at each
of the three district schools were completed, thus enhancing the educational environment of the
schools and improving student and teacher safety. Finally, the district's financial condition is
strong; and
WHEREAS, DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY immersed herself in the betterment of not only School
District 26, but the Mount Prospect community as well, by becoming an active member of the
River Trails Education Foundation Board of Trustees, the Mount Prospect Rotary Club, and the
Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, and numerous professional organizations;
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has been the recipient of immeasurable service from
DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEE and express their gratitude for her dedication and contributions.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do
hereby acknowledge and recognize DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY for her years of service to the
community and wish her a long and successful future.
SECTION TWO: That an official copy of this Resolution be suitably prepared and presented
to DR. SHIRLEY SMALLEY as a perpetual memento.
SECTION THREE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its
passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
