MAYORS REPORT 4/16/02PR 0 CLAMA TION "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" April 14-20, 2002 WHEREAS, our nation's libraries and librarians play a vital role in connecting millions of people with the resources they need to live, learn, work, govern and thrive in the 2]st Century; and WHEREAS, free people need free libraries and America's libraries are the cornerstones of our democracy; and WHEREAS, librarians are the guardians of free access to information and resources, and libraries are for everyone, everywhere; and WHEREAS, every library - whether public, school, academic or special - has something unique to offer that ties its community to the very concept of a free people in a free lan& and WHEREAS, libraries bring you the world; nowhere else can you have access to nearly anything on the Web or in print as well as personal service and assistance in finding it; and NOI'E, THEREFORE, L GeraM L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of April 14-20, 2002 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" and I encourage all residents to support and use your library. Lowe Village Clerk Dated this 16th day of April 2002. PR 0 CLAMA TION "ARBOR DA Y" April 26, 2002 WHEREAS, in 1872 J. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, 2002 is the i30th anniversary of the holiday and Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, provide habitat for wildlife, beautify our community, and produce life-giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, food, wood for our homes, and fuel for our fires. NOW, THEREFORE, L GeraM L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 26, 2002, as "ARBOR DA Y" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all citizens to observe Arbor Day by attending the ceremonial tree-planting at the Mount Prospect Historical Society, 101 South Maple Street on April 26, 2002, at l :OO p. m. PRO CLAMA TION "MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK" APRIL 28 - MAI' 4, 2002 WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk, a time honored and vital part of local government, exists throughout the world; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk is the oldest among public servants; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk provides the professional link between the citizens and the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks continually strive to improve the administration of the affairs of the Office of the Municipal Clerk through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops and the regular meetings of their state, county and international professional organizations; WHEREAS, it is most appropriate at this time that we recognize the contributions and accomplishments of the Office of the Municipal Clerk. NOW, THEREFORE, L Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do proclaim the week of April 28 through May 4, 2002, as "MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK" and further extend appreciation to our Village Clerk, Velma W.. Lowe, to our Deputy Clerk Kimberly A. Dewis, and to all Municipal Clerks for the vital services they perform and their exemplary dedication to the communities they represent. ATTEST: Gerald L. PR 0 CLAMA TION "CHILDREN'S FIRE SAFETY WEEK" MA Y 6 - 10, 2002 WHEREAS, it is believed that 90~ of fire deaths in Illinois couM be prevented if every residence had smoke detectors and proper home escape plans; and WHEREAS, to achieve that goal the Office of the State Fire Marshal and organizations of Fire Chiefs, Fire Inspectors and Firefighters have joined together in a state-wide program to make the public more aware of the advantages that properly placed smoke detectors can give; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Firefighters work &Tigently to reduce the horrendous fire deaths and property losses through prevention, public education and suppression; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Fire Department, Randhurst Shopping Center and neighboring fire departments will once again host the CHILDREN'S FIRE SAFETY FESTIVAL, at the Randhurst Shopping Center May 6-10, 2002, at which time children o fall ages will be encouraged to learn and participate in proper fire survival techniques. NOW, THEREFORE, L Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of May 6-10, 2002 as "CHILDREN'S FIRE SAFETY WEEK" in the V~Tlage of Mount Prospect and I call upon our citizens individually, and as a community, to actively support their firefighters in their efforts to reduce fire deaths, injuries and property loss. I also urge the news media and other public information officers to join in the recognition and to encourage participation in this event. ATTEST: Gerald L. Farley Mayor Velma W.
