MAYORS REPORT 5/4/04 PROCLAMA TION "SENIOR CELEBRA TION DA Y" MAY 12,2004 WHEREAS, education is a lifelong process; and WHEREAS, public education is a community enterprise, and community education philosophy advocates full use of public facilities, programs and services by every age group in the community; and WHEREAS, the skills, talents and experiences of senior citizens are untapped resources in many communities and intergenerational cooperation promotes efficient use ofhuman resources; and WHEREAS, community education promotes the use of community resources, community volunteers in schools, senior citizen centers and community agencies, and maximizes the use of human resources to provide educational opportunities for residents of all ages; and WHEREAS, the goal of community education is to promote a sharing, caring, learning community; and WHEREAS, senior citizens have earned our respect and recognition for their past accomplishments, and their present and future contributions; and WHEREAS, Senior Celebration Day is co-sponsored by the High School District 214 Community Education and the Village of Mount Prospect, to encourage and develop programs and activities to meet the needs of all the residents in High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect. NOw, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 12,2004 as a day in recognition of the "SIXTEENTH ANNUAL SENIOR CELEBRATIONDAY" in Mount Prospect. Furthermore, I call upon the residents of High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect to recognize and celebrate the bonds they have discovered, the partnerships they have formed, and the sense of community they have strengthened through community education programs. PR 0 CLA MA TION "MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK" MAY 2 - MAY 8,2004 WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk, a vital position of local government, exists throughout the world; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk is the oldest among public servants; and WHEREAS, the Office of the Municipal Clerk provides a professional link between the citizens and the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks have pledged to be ever mindful of their neutrality and impartiality, rendering equal service to all; and WHEREAS, Municipal Clerks continually strive to improve the administration of the affairs of the Office of the Municipal Clérk through participation in education programs, seminars, workshops and the regular meetings of their state, county and international professional organizations; WHEREAS, it is most appropriate at this time that we recognize the contributions and accomplishments of the Office of the Municipal Clerk. NOw, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do proclaim the week of May 2 through May 8, 2004, as "MUNICIPAL CLERKS WEEK" and further extend appreciation to our Village Clerk, Velma W. Lowe, to our Deputy Clerk Kimberly A. Dewis, and to all Municipal Clerks for the vital services . they perform and their exemplary dedication to the communities they represent. Gerald L. PROCLAMA TION "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK" MA Y 16-22, 2004 WHEREAS, the services provided by the Public Works Department in our community, are an integral part of our citizens' everyday lives; and WHEREAS, the support of an understanding and informed community is vital to the efficient operation of a public works system and its many programs relating to water, sewers, streets and highways, public buildings, public grounds, solid waste collection, trees, recycling, and snow removal; and WHEREAS, the quality and effectiveness of these facilities, as well as their planning, design and construction are dependent upon the efforts and skills of public works employees; and WHEREAS, the efficiency of the qualified and dedicated personnel who staff public works departments is materially influenced by the people's attitude and understanding of the importance of the work they perform; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department will have an Open House on Saturday, May 15,2004, between the hours of9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., to acquaint the residents of Mount Prospect with the many services provided by the Public Works Department, NOw, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of May 16-22, 2004 as "NATIONAL PUBLIC WORKS WEEK" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I call upon all citizens and civic organizations to acquaint themselves with the various services provided by the Mount Prospect Public Works Department to ensure the health, safety and comfort of our residents. PROCLAMA TION "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY" MAY 15,2004 WHEREAS, the well-being of all citizens of the United States is preserved and enhanced as a direct result of the vigilance and dedication of law enforcement personnel; and WHEREAS, more than 740,000 law eriforcement officers, both men and women, at great risk to their personal safety, serve their fellow citizens as guardians of peace; and WHEREAS, these peace officers are on thefront line in preserving the right of the children of the United States to receive an education in a crime-free environment, a right that is all too often threatened by the insidious fear caused by violence in schools; and WHEREAS, every year, 1 in 9 peace officers is assaulted, 1 in 245 is injured, and 1 in 4,400 is killed in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, on May 15, 2004, more than 15, 000 peace officers are expected to gather in the nation's capital to join with the families of their recently fallen comrades to honor those comrades and all others who went before them; and WHEREAS, our peace officers work devotedly and selflessly on behalf of the people of this nation, however, the Village of Mount Prospect has been very fortunate to have never lost an officer in the line of duty. NOw, THEREFORE, 1, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 15, 2004 as "NATIONAL PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY" and May 9 through 15, 2004 as "NATIONAL POLICE WEEK" in memory of all fallen or disabled officers and their families, and do further proclaim that we, as citizens of the Village of Mount Prospect, should recognize these dedicated individuals for their efforts to maintain a peaceful society for all citizens.
