HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/20/2011 SCC MinutesMOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes: January 20, 2011 Attendees: Paula Randant, Gary Randant, John Korn, Skip & Janice Farley, Denise Rano, Dorothy Kucera, Lorrie Huber, Maura El Metennani, Mike Karsen, Tricia Fusilero, Maura Reschke, Cindy Kiel, Rachel Toeppen, John and Mary Ann Sibrava I. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy at 5:35 PM. II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. III. Chair remarks - Dorothy Dorothy shared information on the passing and wake of Alice Whyte. She also noted that the new president was Frank Leantlo of Elk Grove Village. She also discussed the Illinois Sister Cities Convention coming up in Tinley Park April 1 & 2, 2011. She also noted that the deadline for the Sister Cities Newsletter was January 25, 2011 for submissions. IV. Reports: Mary Ann Sibrava reported on Innovations in Reading, a National Book Presentation Prize. She submitted the Book Crossing for consideration for the prize and if the Library would win they would win $2500. The Book Crossing was so unique it was a good program to enter in the contest. Tricia Fusilero reported on the French Trivia Night. The date for the event will be February 19, 2011 at 7:30 P.M. The cost will be $10. per person. There will be 10 tables of about 10 people available. There will be prizes for the winners. Invitations and publicity will be put out to the community. Members will talk the event up. Denise Rano reported on Tea with Napoleon. There was some discussion of putting it on in conjunction with the Historical Society. Denise had spoken to someone who plays Napoleon for presentations. There was some discussion of venues as the Historical Society museum is probably too small. No date has been set and the event will be discussed further at the next meeting. Dorothy Kucera reported on the Pot Luck as Judy Thorne was absent. It will be April 7, 2011. She asked that each member donate a door prize. Judy and Lorrie will co- chair. Mary Ann Sibrava reported that the Family French Festival at the Library will be July 13, 2011. Rose Nadolsky will provide French music and read a book for kids again. Trip to Sevres: Irvana was in Washington for the Mayors conference so Dorothy reported. The Departure /arrival date will be May 28, 2011 and departure /return home date June 5, 2011. There will be 3 or 4 nights in Sevres and then an excursion to the Loire Valley. Further details to come. John Sibrava asked about the official gift. Irvana and Janice will work on the gift. There was some discussion. The next meeting will be March 17, 2011 at 5:30 P.M. The meeting was adjourned at 6:50 P.M. Respectfully Submitted, Paula Randant
