HomeMy WebLinkAbout4. Mayor's Report 04/06/2011RESOLUTION NO. 10 -11 A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF GLEN R. ANDLER TO THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER began his career with the Village of Mount Prospect on September 11, 1972 as a Maintenance Worker in the Public Works Department; and WHEREAS, due to his exemplary work ethic and strong leadership skills GLEN R. ANDLER was promoted to Public Works Foreman on May 1, 1976; and WHEREAS, in recognition of his affinity for detail, his encompassing strategic vision, and his incisive organizational skills GLEN R. ANDLER was promoted to Deputy Director of Public Works on October 7, 1979; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER was selected to become Mount Prospect's third Director of Public Works on June 1, 1995; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has exemplified the highest standards of public service and stewardship as he helmed a Public Works Department responsible for a multitude of diverse programs and services essential to the quality of life in Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER initiated the Village's first Public Works Open House in 1979, an annual event that remains popular with Mount Prospect families until this day, as a means to educate and inform the public about the important services provided by public works agencies; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER was an early adopter and consistent advocate of innovative programs to safeguard our environment by reducing the flow of refuse to landfills including the Single Family Solid Waste and Recycling Program, the Commercial Solid Waste and Recycling Program, the Compact Fluorescent Light Recycling Program, the Medication and Sharps Collection Program, the Holiday Light Recycling Program, and the Battery Recycling Program; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has fostered and championed the development of a preeminent arboriculture (tree) maintenance program that has resulted in an urban forest second to none in Illinois and garnered the prestigious Tree City USA award from the National Arbor Day Foundation for 26 consecutive years; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER was instrumental in the development, construction, and maintenance of over $20 million worth of wastewater collection system improvement projects to safeguard Mount Prospect homes from sewer back -ups and surcharges, Glen also played an integral role in the implementation of numerous flood prevention projects designed to protect Mount Prospect homes and businesses from the ravages of excess storm water; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has championed transportation improvement projects to improve the safety and efficiency of Mount Prospect roadways including the Street Resurfacing /Reconstruction Program, and the Neighborhood Traffic Study Program that added consistency to traffic control systems; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER valiantly commanded the Village's emergency responses to a number of natural disasters including near - records snowfalls in 1979, 1999, and 2011 as well as record and near - record Des Plaines River crests in 1986, 1987, 1996, 2007 and 2008; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has repeatedly dedicated substantial, time, energy, and effort to the successful production of a variety of civic and special events including the Celestial Celebration, Blues Fest, 4 h of July Parade, Downtown Block Party, Oktoberfest /Fall Festival, and the Winter Festival Parade; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER personally supervised the design and construction of streetscaping projects that have helped transform the appeal and improve the viability of our downtown business area; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has consistently represented the Village well in his service to regional and professional organizations including the American Public Works Association for which he held a variety of offices including Chicago Metro Chapter President, and for which his service was recognized by receiving the prestigious Harry S. Swearingen Award in 2000 and a Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year nominee in 1991; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER has prosecuted each day of his storied career with an irrepressible good- natured spirit, an innate benevolence, and a genuine kindness that have endeared him to Village staff, residents, business leaders, and the community as a whole; and WHEREAS, GLEN R. ANDLER will be sorely missed by his colleagues, peers and a grateful community and he will be fondly remembered for his devotion and the indelible imprint he has left on Mount Prospect. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby acknowledge and recognize GLEN R. ANDLER for his more than 38 years of unparalleled service to the Village and do hereby express our sincere gratitude for his consummate leadership as well as his innumerable contributions and resolute devotion to the residents of Mount Prospect. SECTION TWO: That, as he enters the twilight of a career that defines the epitome of public service, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby extend to GLEN R. ANDLER and his wife Sandy best wishes for good health and happiness in their retirement. SECTION THREE That the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby declare Thursday, April 7, 2011 as "Glen R. Andler Day" in the Village of Mount Prospect. SECTION FOUR That an official copy of this Resolution be suitably prepared and presented to Glen R. Andler as a perpetual memento. SECTION FIVE That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. AYES: Mayor Irvana K. Wilks, Trustees Paul Wm. Lisa Angell Village Clerk PROCLAMATION MOUNT PROSPECT SUNRISE ROTARY 20 ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, Rotary International is an organization deserving of the community's respect and appreciation for its commitment to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club celebrates 20 years of service to our community and the world with a gala anniversary dinner April 16, 2011; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club supports many worthy programs, including its vocational scholarships, Rotary Youth Leadership Award program for high school students, support of the Community Connections Center, providing hygiene kits for residents in need, buying 46 winter coats through Rotary's Operation Warm for distribution to the needy by CEDA Northwest, and creating a "book house" to promote literacy and enhance the reading experience of children at Mount Prospect Public Library; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club's long list of past and ongoing activities over 20 years includes raising funds for these projects while also contributing to the community's nutritional health with annual citrus sales; hosting annual fundraising holiday breakfasts for five years straight; participating in the Mount Prospect Historical Society's Oral History Project and providing funds and hands -on assistance to beautify the Society's grounds and help move the old Schoolhouse; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club's contributions extend far beyond the borders of Mount Prospect to include taking the lead in providing funding for installation of Rotary's first digital x -ray unit for low income residents in Guatemala City, Guatemala; organizing a matching grant program for drug rehabilitation in Campinas, Brazil; sending emergency funds to Kosovo (victims of war), Central America (hurricane victims), Indonesia and Haiti (earthquake victims), and Midwestern communities (flood victims); and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Sunrise Rotary Club's other achievements include repairing homes for five years through Christmas in April Northwest; donating six Shelter Boxes, for disaster victims in Haiti and elsewhere, each box providing shelter and survival supplies for 10 people for 6 months; bringing the Gears program to Frost Elementary School to teach basic mechanical skills; endowing a study room at Mount Prospect Public Library; and participating in a Book Worm Angels project to provide books to inner city Chicago schools. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby proclaim, Sunday, April 10, 2011 as "SUNRISE ROTARY OF MOUNT PROSPECT DAY" in the Village and beseech all residents to honor the contributions this voluntary organization makes to the betterment of our community, and the world. Prospect Child Care Center, Inc. and other local organizations in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and WHEREAS, the future of Mount Prospect and the State of Illinois depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to young children today; and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 10 -16, 2011 as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all individuals to recognize and support the needs of young children in ours and neighboring communities. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 6 t " day of April, 2011 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" April 10-16,2011 WHEREAS, libraries provide free access to all — from books and online resources for families to library business centers that help support entrepreneurship and retraining; and WHEREAS our nation's school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever; and WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in a challenging economy; and WHEREAS, libraries are helping level the playing field for job seekers, with 88% of public libraries providing public access to job databases and other online resources; and WHEREAS, libraries are places of opportunity providing programs that teach all forms of literacy, promoting continuing education and encouraging lifelong learning; and WHEREAS, in economic hardship, Americans turn to — and depend on — their libraries and librarians; and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of April 10 -16, 2011 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" and I encourage all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources available @ your library; Communities thrive @ your library. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 6th day of April, 2011 PROCLAMATION MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE SIXTY (60) YEAR ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE has been at the forefront of instilling timeless values in youth since its founding in 1951; and WHEREAS, thanks to the generous land donations of the Mount Prospect Lions Club, "Lions Park" and Mr. Owen Rooney "Owen Park" the newly organized league had dedicated playing fields to enhance this popular community sport; and WHEREAS, since that time the Mount Prospect Baseball league has remained a strong and popular organization that now includes; Tee Ball, Girls Softball, Bronco Baseball, Pony Baseball and Mavericks Travel Team; and WHEREAS, the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE is committed to helping our youth succeed by providing the support, friendship and sportsmanship necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life; and WHEREAS, a number of former players in the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE moved on to professional sports careers: Dave Kingman former Chicago Cubs Home Run Champion, Larry Monroe former White Sox pitcher, George Bork former Canadian football player who later coached golf at Prospect High School and John Steinmiller, vice - president of the Milwaukee Bucks; and WHEREAS, the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE currently has over 1,200 boys and girls playing youth baseball and softball for the Village of Mount Prospect. It is recognized that the success of the Baseball League in the Village of Mount Prospect depends on the support of its citizens; WHEREAS, in tradition of the early years of the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE, the 2011 baseball season will kick -off with a parade in honor of the organization's 60 Anniversary; and WHEREAS, the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE 60 YEAR ANNIVERSARY PARADE will commence at 10:00 a.m., April 16 th , in the Fairview School parking lot; the parade will travel west on Gregory Street to Meadows Park. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, along with the Mount Prospect Village Board of Trustees congratulate the MOUNT PROSPECT BASEBALL LEAGUE in celebrating its 60 Year Anniversary and extend our sincere gratitude to the organization for its significant contributions to our youth and encourage the community to cheer on the players, coaches and families at the 60 Year Anniversary Parade. On March 15, 2011 the Village Board created a new Class "F1" license in the name of the new corporation. ORDINANCE NO.
