SUBJECT: 2011 CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS
MARCH 8 TH COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING
The construction season is soon to be upon us and for your information I have
compiled a list and corresponding map of the public construction projects that have
been scheduled for this year. I have attached copies for your use.
The map depicts these Village construction projects:
• Street Resurfacing (highlighted in red)
• Other Village Projects (highlighted in blue)
Two projects are shown on the list but not on the map that will not be under
construction this year but the design engineering work will be completed anticipating
construction in 2012.
• Kensington Road Reconstruction
• Pedestrian Signal Improvements at the Northwest Highway / Mount Prospect
Road / Prospect Avenue intersections.
The map also depicts the following projects by other agencies (highlighted in green):
• Levee 37 Project by the Army Corps of Engineers
No other agencies have scheduled any projects in Mount Prospect for this year.
I will be at the March 8 th Committee of the Whole Meeting to provide a brief summary
of each project and to answer any questions.

VILLAGE PROJECTS
1. 2011 STREET RESURFACING PROGRAM
Description: 26 streets / 4.7 miles of intermittent curb repair, asphalt resurfacing
and streetscape improvements at various locations throughout the
Village.
Cost: $2,298,000
Contractor: Arrow Road Construction
Schedule: Start work / April 2011 Completion / October 2011
2. KENSINGTON BUSINESS CENTER POND 4 AND 5A IMPROVEMENTS
(Feehanville Drive west of Kingston Court)
Description: Detention pond dredging and bank stabilization.
Cost: $232,000
Contractor: Undetermined / Bid Opening in May
Schedule: Start work / July 2011 Completion / November 2011
3. PROSPECT AVENUE EECBG STREET LIGHT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (Maple Street to Pine Street)
Description: Replace existing street lights and pedestrian lights or Install new lights
that are LED energy efficient lights utilizing Energy Efficiency and
Conservation Block Grant Program ( EECBG) and Department of Economic
Opportunity Grant (DCEO) funding.
Cost: $507,317
Contractor: Hecker and Co.
Schedule: Start work / March 2011 Completion / Fall 2011
4. KENSINGTON BUSINESS CENTER EECBG STREET LIGHT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT (Feehanville Drive
and Business Center Drive)
Description: Replace existing street lights with new LED energy efficient lights that
are utilizing Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program
( EECBG) and Department of Economic Opportunity Grant (DCEO)
funding.
Cost: $31,050
Contractor: Mount Prospect Public Works
Schedule: Start work / March 2011 Completion / Fall 2011
5. BRIARWOOD SANITARY SEWER REPLACEMENT PHASE 1
Description: Replacement of existing sanitary sewer main that is failing and causing
backups into basements. Project is partially funded by a Community
Development Block Grant (CDBG).
Cost: $1,000,000
Contractor: Undetermined / Bid Opening in May
Schedule: Start work / June 2011 Completion / October 2011

6. COMBINED SEWER REPAIR PROGRAM (Various locations throughout the Village)
Description: Sewer point repairs and cured in place lining of existing combined
sewers.
Cost: $1,000,000
Contractor: Undetermined /Bid Opening in May
Schedule: Start work / June 2011 Completion / October 2011
7. PRIVATE PROPERTY DRAINAGE SOLUTIONS (Various locations throughout the Village)
Description: Install drainage improvements at problem locations.
Cost: $100,000
Contractor: Undetermined / Bid Opening in May
Schedule: Start work / July 2011 Completion / September 2011
8. KENSINGTON ROAD RECONSTRUCTION (Rand Road to Prospect High School)
Description: Design Engineering and construction document preparation for 2012
construction. Project will be done in cooperation with IDOT utilizing
federal funding.
Cost: $122,192
Consultant: Gewalt Hamilton Associates
Schedule: Start work / April 2011 Completion / November 2011
9. PEDESTRIAN SIGNAL IMPROVEMENTS (Northwest Highway / Mount Prospect Road / Prospect
Avenue intersections)
Description: Design Engineering, construction document preparation and permit
approvals for 2012 construction.
Cost: $36,936
Contractor: Gewalt Hamiliton Associates
Schedule: Start work / February 2011 Completion / February 2012
ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS PROJECTS
10. LEVEE 37 / US ARMY CORPS OF ENGINEERS, PHASE It (Along River Road and Milwaukee Avenue
from Euclid to Palatine)
Description: Construct levee wall and pump stations along the west side of River
Road and Milwaukee Avenue to protect subdivisions west of Des Plaines
River.
Cost: $23,000,000
Contractor: Vistas Construction
Schedule: Start work / April 2009 Completion / 2011
