Mayor's Report 11/16/2010PROCLAMATION "TEDDY BEAR WALK WEEK" November 28 —December 4, 2010 WHEREAS, in 1980 the annual Teddy Bear Walk was started by the Mount Prospect Public Library, Mount Prospect State Bank, and downtown merchants to provide a holiday tradition for the children of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, December 4, 2010 marks the 30` anniversary of this annual event; and WHEREAS, the event will be celebrated with songs, stories, and a parade; and WHEREAS, the event will end with Ted E. Bear leading a parade of families and bears in the annual Teddy Bear Walk; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect recognizes this popular community event. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Steven S. Polit, Mayor Pro Tem of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim November 28 through December 4, 2010 as "MOUNT PROSPECT TEDDY BEAR WALK WEEK, " and on behalf of the Village 1 thank everyone who has contributed to making the Teddy Bear Walk a favorite holiday tradition for the families of Mount Prospect. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this day of November, 2010 PROCLAMATION BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA 100 YEAR ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America has been at the forefront of instilling timeless values in youth since its founding in 1910; and WHEREAS, this national youth movement has made serving others through its values -based program its mission; and WHEREAS, the Boy Scout program provides a means of character building, citizenship training and personal fitness; and WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America is committed to helping millions of youth succeed by providing the support, friendship and mentoring necessary to live a happy and fulfilling life; and WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America has been serving 34 Northwest Suburban communities, including the Village of Mount Prospect, since 1912; and WHEREAS, it is recognized that the success of the Boy Scout program in the Village of Mount Prospect depends on the support of its citizens. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Steven S. Polit, Mayor Pro Tern of the Village of Mount Prospect, along with the Mount Prospect Village Board of Trustees congratulate the Boy Scouts of America in celebrating its 100 year anniversary and extend our sincere gratitude to the organization for its significant contributions to our youth. And, I encourage citizens to recognize and support the scouts as well as the adult leaders in our local Boy Scouts of America troops. Steven S. Polit Mayor Pro Tern ATTEST: M. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this day of November, 2010 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL DRUNK AND DRUGGED DRIVING (3D) PREVENTION MONTH" DECEMBER 2010 WHEREAS, motor vehicle crashes killed 911 people in Illinois during 2009; and WHEREAS, 319 of those deaths involved a driver impaired by alcohol; and WHEREAS, the December holiday season is traditionally one of the most deadly times of the year for alcohol- impaired driving; and WHEREAS, for thousands of families across the state and nation, holidays are a time to remember loved ones lost; and WHEREAS, organizations across the state and the nation are joined with the You Drink & Drive. You Lose and other campaigns that foster public awareness of the dangers of impaired driving and anti - impaired driving law enforcement efforts; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect is proud to partner with the Illinois Department of Transportation's Division of Traffic Safety and advocacy groups in that effort to make our streets and roads safer. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Steven S. Polit, Mayor Pro Tern of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby proclaim December 2010 as "Drunk and Drugged Driving (3D) Prevention Month" in the Village of Mount Prospect and do hereby call upon all citizens, government agencies, business leaders, hospitals and other health care providers, schools and public and private institutions to promote awareness of the impaired driving problem, to support programs and policies to reduce the incidence of impaired driving and to promote safer and healthier behaviors regarding the use of alcohol and other drugs, this December holiday season and throughout the year.
