HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/04/2001 EDC minutes MINUTES ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION 2nd Floor Conference Room, Village Hall Thursday, October 4, 2001 8:00 a.m. The meeting of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of the Village of Mount Prospect was held on Thursday, October 4, 2001 ~n the second floor conference room of Vdlage Hall, 100 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Ilhnols CALL TO ORDER Chmrman Norm Kurtz called the meeting to order at 8 00 a m Commissioners John Amdt, Brace Gdhlan and Ben Trapam were present Commlss~onersPatB~edar, Kev~nDavlesandDav~dL~ndgrenwereabsent Also present were Wdham J Cooney, D~rector of Community Development, Madele~ne Frankhn, Executive D~rector of the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce, and Tom Zander of White Pinker Fence Realty APPROVAL OF MINUTES The m~nutes of the June 7, 2001 meeting were reviewed and approved unammously OLD BUSINESS Status Update Mr Cooney prowded a general overview of several projects In the Vdlage Them was d~scusslon regardmg the current condition of Randhurst and possible tenants for that center Mr Cooney also ~nd~cated that Mr Davies would soon be leaving Randhurst for a s~mllar positron m Fort Worth, Texas Mr Cooneythen prowded an update of the following projects Autobam, Randhurst Crossings, Andrews Products, Albany Molecular Technology, Mount Prospect Plaza and the Sunrise retail development Mr Cooney also ~nd~cated that the Downtown development projects were moving along on schedule He ~nd~cated that The Comer Bakery was the first tenant of the Lofts and Shops Project and that staff was following-up on several leads There was d~scuss~on concerning the condttlon ofthe Dorett~ Shopping Plaza andtheposslbfl~tyofextend~ngthateenter~ntoadjacentpropertles Mr Tmpanl also tnd~cated that he thought the Village needed to move forward on the redevelopment of the small triangle block on the northwest comer of Northwest H~ghway and Route 83 Mr Cooney explatned the current financial s~tuatlon of the T1F and that ~t would be very difficult for the Vdlage to aggresstvely pursue addttmnal acqmsltlons over the next few years NEW BUSINESS Imaeing Camoalgn for the Vdla~e of Mount Prospect Mr Cooney distributed a memorandum and attachments that provided background on the concept of an Imaging Campmgn for the Village He mdtcated that, over the next eighteen months, the Vdlage would be conducting surveys of Mount Prospect residents and businesses and of s~mflar people m surrounding commumtles to determine their views on Mount Prospect He mdrcated that the intent would be to determine the positive attributes ofthe Village and to market those throughout the regmn He mdmated ~t would also be an opportumtyto determine negative conceptions of the Village and to address those m an appropriate manner The Economic Development Commlsston supported the concept of the Imaging Program and indicated an interest in partm~pat~ng In that program conomm Development Commission October 4, 2001 M~nutes Page 2 EDC Goals for 2002 There was general d~scusslon about goals for the upcoming year for the Economic Development Commission It was suggested that each member prepare speeffic goals that they w~sh the Comm~ssmn to address over the next year and be prepared to d~scuss the matter further at the December meeting Mr Kurtz mdmated that he thought ~t would be appropriate for the EDC to request a meeting w~th the Vdlage Board to d~scuss their goals early ~n 2002 He felt tt would be beneficial to hear from the Board on what their expectations were of the Commission There was general consensus that such a meeting would be benefimal for all ~nvolved CHAIRMAN'S REPORT There was no Chatrman's Report at th~s meeting ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 9 00 ~.m The next meeting wall be held on December 6th Respectfully submitted, D~rector of Commumty Development
