HomeMy WebLinkAbout08/24/1918 VB minutes August 24, I9I8. Minutes of a special meeting called by order of the President, • President Busse and Trustees Pohlmann and Haberkamp being present. The President informed the members that the citizens of Desplaines, Arlington Heights, Palatine and the employees of the Benjamin Electric Co. contemplated joining the citizens of this village in a memorial service to held on the base -ball field Tuesday evening Aug. 27, 1918 in honor of John Alex , one of the boys of this village fighting for our country in France, who had been reported killed in action in France on July 18, I9I8. Thereupon trustee Pohlmann informed the meeting that he had just received a letter from John Alex dated by him on Aug. 2, I918 and post dated in Prance on Aug. 7th, 19I8 in which he stated that he was con- valescent from wound received in battle, in a hospital in France. Thereupon President Busse called up Mr. Eaton of the Benjamin Electric Co. informing him of the letter trustee Pohlmann had received. Mr. Eaton informed the President that under the circumstances he thought it advisable to call off the proposed memorial service and that he would inform him definatly the following morning.
