MINUTES
CLOSED SESSION
August 7, 2007
The meeting was convened at 8:41p.m., in the third floor Executive Conference Room of Village
Hall, 50 South Emerson, by Mayor Irvana Wilks. Those present at the Closed Session were:
Trustees Timothy Corcoran, Paul Hoefert, Arlene Juracek, John Korn, Richard Lohrstorfer and
Michael Zadel. Staff present included Village Manager Michael Janonis. Motion made by
Trustee Juracek, seconded by Trustee Zadel to move into Closed Session. The purpose of the
Closed Session was to discuss Personnel and Land Acquisition.
Personnel Discussion
Village Manager Michael Janonis reviewed with Board members a request from Police Chief
John Dahlberg to make four anticipatory hires for new police patrol officers. The request to
advance hire takes into account the long lead time involved in sending new officers to training
academy and local field training prior to being able to deploy the officers on the street solo.
Several retirements and /or pending disability claims will be reducing the authorized patrol
strength over the next several months. The anticipatory hires would allow the new officers to be
placed in the patrol rotation by Spring 2008 in advance of higher warm weather police activity.
The Village Board discussed the pending retirement and disability applications given the
impending nature of same, the Village Board authorized the Manager to initiate the requested
anticipatory hires.
