MAYORS REPORT 09/07/2010 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH" SEPTEMBER 15 - OCTOBER 15, 2010 WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates and recognizes the contributions Hispanic Americans have made to the American society and cultures; and WHEREAS, National Hispanic Heritage Month also honors five of our Latin American neighbors who celebrate their Independence days in September — Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico and Nicaragua; and WHEREAS, through hard work, a deep and abiding faith and a strong work ethic, Hispanic Americans have pursued their dreams and contributed to the strength and vitality of our Nation; and WHEREAS, today, more than ever, Hispanic Americans play an integral role in shaping our country. They serve as leaders in government, law and business and enrich our culture, bringing creativity and innovation to everything from sports to the sciences and from the arts to our economy; and WHEREAS, Hispanics have served with honor in every conflict since the Revolutionary War; they have made invaluable contributions through their service to our country and taken their rightful place as heroes in our Nation 's history. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim September 15 — October 15, 2010 as "NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH" and I encourage all individuals to applaud the accomplishments of Hispanic Americans and recognize their many contributions to our community, state and nation.
