HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/10/2010 SEC minutes Mount Prospect Special Events Commission Meeting Minutes- Saturday, July 10, 2010 CALL TO ORDER: Dawn Fletcher Collins called the meeting to order at 9:05 a.m. Present: Sandy DiCaro, Janice Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Eileen Gattas, Christina Greco, Martha Helm, Linda Hoefert, Mike Janonis, Jim Uszler, Teresa VanOpdorp Absent: Dale Draznin, Kathy Janonis, Paul Seils APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion made by Teresa VanOpdorp to approve the minutes from the June 5, 2010 meeting, seconded by Janice Farley. FINANCIAL REPORT: Financial Report presented by Mike Janonis. Discussion related to the parade expenses followed by information and updated details from Teresa VanOpdorp which requires an adjustment to the Fine Arts expenses total. A motion made by Jill Friedrichs to accept the Financial Report with the one edit item, seconded by Christina Greco. CURRENT BUSINESS: -- Teresa VanOpdorp shared Fine Arts Fest/Blues Fest success. The wind was an issue at times, but overall comments from vendors were positive. First aid station may be relocated to another spot, and we will make vendors aware of this. We may also remind vendors to bring their own water bottles. It has been suggested that we delay the start time to 11:00 a.m. or noon for various reasons including it may increase attendance at the Kids' Activity Booth. Under consideration. Judges made excellent comments and congratulated Teresa on a good event. Awards were presented and appreciated. Trustee Juracek purchased Mayor's award in Mayor Wilks' absence. - -Jill Friedrichs stated that there were 84 units who participated for the Fourth of July Parade! Jill shared, as well as many of us noticed....there were only two gaps in the parade and it made an enormous difference and contributed to the enjoyment factor. Many excellent displays of Fourth of July pride and many comments about the excellent performing acts. Jesse White on site! The volunteer help provided by some Commission members was appreciated and helpful. That may be tweaked next year. Lots of last minute registrations and Jill pulled it all together and it showed. - -Martha Helm reported on the Do -!t- Yourself Sousa event on July 26. Eileen and Janice helped with getting the music copied and mailed to musicians.Martha ordered flags and the 750 programs will be prepared by MPPD. They will also have some help at the event to assist in passing them out. There are some details that get worked out behind the scenes with Christina and the MPPD and Martha on behalf of our Commission and. Martha heads up the rehearsal night on Sunday, July 25 at Lions Park Rec Center. Janice, Eileen and Dawn will be there at 6:15 p.m. Many members will be there the night of the concert and Martha will email as a reminder. -- Family Bike Ride planning is already underway and being coordinated by Teresa VanOpdorp and Christina Greco with assistance from our police department.They will share out at the August meeting and there will be plenty of volunteer spots to fill, Saturday, August 28. OTHER: Thanks to Christina who passed out our SEC tshirts at the Fine Arts Fest. ADJOURNMENT: No other items up for discussion. Meeting adjourned at 10:00 a.m.
