HomeMy WebLinkAbout03/18/2010 SCC minutes MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes: March 18, 2010 5:30 PM Attendees: Paula Randant, Judy Thorne, John Korn, Skip & Janice Farley, Denise Rano, Rachel Toeppen, Tricia Fusilero, Cindy Kiel, Dorothy Kucera, Mike Karsen, John Sibrava, Irvana Wilks, Lorrie Huber, Paul Seils, Mary Ann Sibrava, , Maura Reschke, Maura El Metennani, Not Attending: Gary Randant I. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy at 5:35 PM. II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. REPORTS: Old Business III. a. Sevres Quilters report from Rachel Toeppen. The quilters will arrive 4/12/10 at 5 PM. Informal reception at Denise Ranos with Sister Cities Members who can attend bringing wine and an appetizer to share will be held that evening. The Quilters leave Sunday 4/18/10 at 2:30 PM. On Thursday 4/15/10 we will have a community Potluck. b. Potluck: The Quilters from Sevres will attend as well as Roland from the Sister Cities th group in Sevres. She will be here bringing the documents for signing that recognize the 10 Anniversary of our Sister Cities relationship. The Potluck is chaired by Lorrie Huber. Maura is facilitating flyers for publicity for the event. It is open to all community members but does require a reservation as the room only accommodates approximately 100 people. All Commission members who will be attending are asked to bring an entrée, or salad or dessert and wine to share. Irvana noted that part of the program for the Potluck will be Irvana and Roland signing commemoration documents. Commission members were also asked to get donated items from community businesses to raffle at the Potluck. Mike Karsen also donated 48 books, A guide to Impressionist Paris, as gifts to the event attendees. The dinner starts at 6:30 PM and Lorrie is working on an agenda. There will be a welcome and document signing. Linda from District 214 Travel will discuss the trip to France. John Korn will bring raffle tickets. Irvana will do the liquor permit for wine and contact the Health Department. Members should bring food around 6 PM. IV. Report: Mary Ann Sibrava is reporting on the Library book discussion and review program with Sevres. Mary Ann has proposed doing 2 books one in French and one in English for Adults, Teens and Children 8 to 11 and Children under 8. The French will develop their discussion separately. The Library has scheduled book discussions and will video tape discussion and send it to France. The group will reconvene in November for the French Week Festival. November 7, 2010 is the Festival. Information to follow. V. Sevres Librarians’ visit to Mount Prospect. Mary Ann Sibrava reported that 4 professional Librarians’ would be coming for a visit to exchange information June 2010. The theme would be the Role of the Library in the Community. The library was looking for 4 host families and place for a good by reception at the end of the week. Paula and Gary offered their home and yard for the reception. Mary Ann will follow up with dates and information. VI. Denise Rano reported on the Young Authors and Young Artists contest. There were 2 entrants from Hersey High School. Denise moved that the entrants be submitted to the contest. It was so moved, seconded and passed. Both entrants will be submitted. VII. Denise Rano reported on the community trip to France. The trip will be 9/24-10/1/10. Linda Kerr from District 214 Travel will make a promotional announcement at the Potluck. Publicity is being developed for several communities to promote the trip. An Open House is being planned at Forest View Education Center on April 21 from 2 to 7 PM to promote the trip. There will also be mailings. Maura will follow up with Letterhead stationary for the mailings. NEW Business VIII. a) Dorothy will be attending the ISC in Carbondale April 9-10, 2010 and would like others to attend. th b) The 4 of July Parade, Mike Karsen will follow up, Gary and Paula will be out of town that date. th c) French Family Festival at the Library on July 14. There is a budget of $310. For talent and $160.00 for ice cream. Capanari’s will provide ice cream. It will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. There are usually 120 attendees. d) French Market-will take place 9/12/10 at the Farmers Market in Mount Prospect. It will be 8 AM to 1 PM and the booth will cost $25.00. th e) National French Week is November 4 to 11. We need a proclamation from the Village Board. A traveling art show was discussed but tabled for this year because there are so many upcoming events. Vino 100 will host a Wine Tasting on 11/4/2010 to start off a week of celebration. Maura Reschke will follow up on this event. The next meeting of the Sister Cities Commission will be May 20, 2010 John Sibrava made a motion for adjourning the meeting. The meeting was adjourned.
