WliERKiI.S, 'T'he VOlUrrJ3 of traffic on the present 2
lane Central Road bebveen Arthur Avenue and Rand Road has
reached and exceeded the danger point due to the following
factors:
1. Residential expanston of Ratlen Heights, Rolling
Meadows, ai''1et other nearby subdivisions,
2. 'l'he opening of the new Bruning plant on Central
Road lrlhere there wi.ll be in excess of 750 auto-
mobile s entering and leaving the plant each day.
3. The increased activity at the 45th Anti-aircraft
Artillery brigade headquarters (Nike r'1issile base)
at Central a'1d ~Jilke Roads,
4. 'l'he operation of the Arlington Park Race Track
during its annual SUffi.Yfler meet;
50 The ever present hazard of the deep culverts on
each side of the road, which is further intensified
during inclement weather,
6. file sho~t sight distance due to the sharp rises
and falls in the pavement grade.
WHEREAS, Cl'he volume of traffic on Central Hoad
will soon be further heavily increased due to the continued
residential expansion, the development of the 106 acre
industrial area on Central Road adJacent to the Bruning
plant (which wll1 account for an estimated 2000-2500
additional 8.utomobiles using Central Hoad) the erection of
the new Northwest Co~~unity Hospital on Central Road, and
the attraction of a new drastically improved and expa.YJ.ded
business secU.on in the center of the Village; aYld
WHEREAS, It is our understanding that the proposed
improvement to Central Road be tHeenNorthwe s t High1....ray and
Arlington Heights Road consists only of a slightly widened
a.Yld resurfaced 2-1ane road during the sumIner of 1958;

'I'EA'l' the Village of Mount Prospect advise the
Commi ssioner s of Cook County and the Cook County Highvay
Department as to tbe inadequacy of the proposed 2-1ane
resurfacing treatment of Central Road and urgently request
tha t they se riously consider proceeding wi th a complete
4-1ane project to include curb and gutter and a complete
drainage system to be completed during the summer of 19580
