HomeMy WebLinkAbout4. MAYORS REPORT 04/06/2010 PROCLAMA TION "Week of the Young Child" April 11-17, 2010 "Early Years Are Learning Years" WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect, Mt. Prospect Child Care Center, and other local organizations in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and WHEREAS, the future of Mount Prospect and the State of Illinois depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to young children today,' and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 11-17, 2010 as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all individuals to recognize and support the needs of young children in ours and neighboring communities. Wilks Mayor ATTEST: M Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 6th day of April, 2010 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" April 11-17, 2010 WHEREAS, libraries everywhere playa vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities; and WHEREAS our nation's school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever; and WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in a challenging economy: and WHEREAS, libraries serve as crucial technology hubs for people in need of free Web access, computer training and assistance finding job resources; and WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream - places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning; and WHEREAS, library use is up nationwide among all types of library users, continuing a decade-long trend; and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of April 11-17, 2010 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" and I encourage all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderfullibrary resources available @ your library; Communities thrive @ your library. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 6th day of April, 2010 PROCLAMA TION NA TIONAL FAIR HOUSING MONTH APRIL 2010 WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect finds that decent, safe, and affordable housing is part of the American dream and a goal of all Illinois residents; and WHEREAS, individuals in the State of Illinois have the right to choose where to live without discrimination based on race, color, religion, age, gender, familial status, marital status, national origin, sexual orientation, and/or disability; and WHEREAS, acts of housing discrimination and barriers to equal housing opportunity are repugnant to a common sense of decency and fairness; and WHEREAS, federal and state laws affirm the right of every person to equal housing opportunity; and WHEREAS, fair housing is a positive community good; and WHEREAS, economic stability, community health, and human relations in all communities and the State of Illinois are improved by diversity and integration; and WHEREAS, stable, integrated, and balanced residential patterns are threatened by discriminatory acts and unlawful housing practices that result in segregation of residents and opportunities in our region; and WHEREAS, the talents of grassroots and non-profit organizations, housing service providers, financial institutions, elected officials, state agencies, and others must be combined to promote and preserve integration, fair housing, and equal opportunity: and WHEREAS, on July 26, 1990, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law to ensure the civil rights of people with disabilities and established a clear and comprehensive national mandate for the elimination of discrimination against individuals with disabilities; and WHEREAS, the ADA has expanded opportunities for Americans with disabilities by reducing barriers, changing perceptions, and increasing full participation in community life; we celebrate and recognize the progress that has been made under the ADA by reaffirming the principles of equality and inclusion and recommitting our efforts to reach full ADA Compliance. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby proclaim the month of April 2010 as: ':National fair :Housing Montk ~~ in the Village of Mount Prospect to establish the Village of Mount Prospect as an open and inclusive community committed to fair housing and to reaffirm our commitment to work toward full inclusion of all people and promote appropriate activities by private and public entities intended to provide or advocate for integration and equal housing opportunities for all residents and prospective residents of the Village of Mount Prospect.
