Present at the Closed Session were: Mayor Gerald L. Farley; Trustees George C:owes; Timothy Corcoran, Paul Hoefert, Michaele Skowron and Irvana Wilks. Absent from the meeting was Trustee Richard Hendricks. Also present were: Village Manager Michael Janonis and Assistant Village Manager David Strahl. The Closed Session Minutes of August 20, 1996 were approved on a Motion by Trustee Skowron and Seconded by Trustee Hoefert. There was an amendment to the Minutes offered by Trustee Hoefert and accepted by those Board members present which substituted, "number of bedrooms in condominiums" for "mix of bedroom types." Roll call vote was unanimous to accept Minutes of August 20. On a Motion by Trustee Wilks, Seconded by Trustee Hoefert, the Closed Session Minutes of September 10, 1996 were approved unanimously on a roll call vote with Trustee Corcoran abstaining. Personnel Village Manager Michael Janonis reviewed with Board members the status of several Firefighter injury cases which had depleted the normal staffing complement for the Department. Mr. Janonis suggested that the Board allow for the anticipatory hiring of two positions so that the process of testing and training could take place while the pending disability cases were being finalized. The idea behind the anticipatory hiring was to shorten the time frame that the Village would be running short-staffed and incurring additional overtime through hire backs. There was some brief discussion among Board members regarding the Police and Fire Pension Codes. It was the consensus of the Village Board to allow the anticipatory hiring of at least two new Firefighters for the purpose of replacing existing positions which were anticipated to be vacant in the near future. There was no other business discussed in Closed Session and on a Motion by Trustee Hoefert and Seconded by Trustee Corcoran with a unanimous roll call vote, the Closed Session was adjourned at 9:37 p.m.; thereupon the Village Board immediately reconvened the Village Board meeting.
