Zadel Village of Mount Prospect 50 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 MINUTES COFFEE WITH COUNCIL Saturday, January 9, 2010 Community Center, Village Hall The meeting convened at 9:00 a.m. Village Board members present were Mayor Pro Tem Arlene Juracek and Trustees Paul Hoefert, John Matuzak and Steve Polit. Representing Staff was Assistant Village Manager Dave Strahl and Community Development Director Bill Cooney. Residents in Attendance Jan Kent Briarwood Drive Teri Markavits Briarwood Drive Jim Chylik Locust Lane Ken Koeppen Linneman Road Carol Tortorello Elmhurst Avenue David Schein Na-Wa-Ta Avenue Thomas Tezky School Street Mayor Pro Tem Juracek opened the meeting with general remarks, introduced the Trustees in attendance and then moved to the resident portion of the meeting. Jan Kent and Teri Markavits, Briarwood Drive – Ms. Kent stated that she and Ms. Markavits were present to determine what progress the Public Works Department had made regarding the sewer backup problems that were impacting their neighborhood. Mr. Strahl stated that staff continues to investigate the situation but that a final determination had not been made regarding the source of the problem. There was general discussion about the ongoing problems and possible causes. Mr. Strahl suggested that this item be added to the agenda of the upcoming neighborhood st meeting on February 1 so that the Village could provide a status to the neighbors. Ms. Kent and Ms. Markavits agreed that this would be appropriate and also asked that the Public Works Department contact them in the meantime to advise of their progress. Coffee with Council Minutes Page 1 of 2 January 9, 2010 im Chylik, Locust Lane – Mr. Chylik recognized the Public Works Department for their snow removal efforts. He also asked if the Village had ever considered passing an ordinance requiring commercial and apartment owners to shovel their sidewalks, especially on major roadways. He said that he has seen many people walking in the roadways and thinks that this is very unsafe. Mr. Strahl stated that the Village had not considered such an ordinance but that staff could investigate what other communities have done on this matter. Ken Koeppen, Linneman Road – Mr. Koeppen stated he was attending to listen to others. Carol Tortorello, Elmhurst Avenue – Ms. Tortorello stated she was attending to listen to others. David Schein, Na-Wa-Ta Avenue – Mr. Schein stated he was attending to listen to others. Thomas Tezky, School Street – Mr. Tezky inquired if it was legal to sell piranhas at pet stores. He felt that that should not be allowed as they are a dangerous fish. The general consensus was that this was permitted but he was encouraged to inquire with the state on the matter.
