Safety Commission Meeting Page 1 of 2 May 11, 2009 OLD BUSINESS There was no old business to discuss. NEW BUSINESS Traffic Engineer Lawrie updated the Commission on various transportation related construction projects taking place in 2009. The Neighborhood Traffic Sign Project, pedestrian signal projects, road improvement projects and lighting projects were highlighted. There was general discussion about a few of the projects that have already begun and a few scheduled to start later this year. During discussion of the pedestrian signal projects, Commissioner Campos expressed concern that the pedestrian signals at Central Road and Busse Road may not be operating correctly. Traffic Engineer Lawrie said he would investigate this and also explained the different phases of the cycle: walk, flashing don't walk, and steady don't walk. COMMISSION ISSUES Commissioner TOltorello brought up a number of issues. As part ofthe Neighborhood Traffic Study, she suggested that the Stop signs on Meier Road at Lonnquist Boulevard be removed because they are apparently causing northbound traffic to back-up into Golf Road before church services at St. Cecilia. Traffic Engineer Lawrie said he would investigate this and make sure it was reviewed as part of the post- study process. Commissioner Tortorello requested that the pedestrian island at Route 83 and Evergreen Avenue be painted to deter vehicles from riding onto the curb. Traffic Engineer Lawrie said he would look into it. She also noted that northbound Route 83 between Gregory Street and Kensington Road is in need of repair. Traffic Engineer Lawrie said he would pass along this request to appropriate Staff. Commissioner T0l10rello also had questions about the lighting project along Prospect Avenue and resurfacing of the 300 block of S. Elmhurst Avenue. She also requested a list of those streets scheduled to be resurfaced this year by the Village. Traffic Engineer Lawrie said he would provide her this information. ADJOURNMENT With no fUl1her business to discuss, the Safety Commission voted 8-0 to adjourn at 7:50 p.m. upon the motion of Commissioner Pampel. Commissioner Tortorello seconded the motion.
