RESOLUTION NO. 23-68
A RESOLUTION IN SUPPORr OF HOME FIRE SAFETY INSPECTIONS
WHEREAS, each year about 65 percent of the fires wi thin buildings occur
in homes; and
WHEREAS, two-thirds of the people who die as a result of fire, lose their
lives in home fires; and
WHEREAS, everyone wants a safe home and many persons are uninformed about
fire hazards existing in their hones; and
WHEREAS, the inspection of homes to prevent fires is not a matter of
municipal law or regulatory compulsion; and
WHEREAS, the Safety Canmission of the Village of Mount Prospect and the
Intemational Association of Fire Chiefs have long been supporting voluntary
fire safety inspections of homes; and
WHEREAS, the Public Health and Safety Canmittee of the Board of Trustees
of the Village of Mount Prospect did meet on June 19, 1968 and have recommended
adoption of home inspection by the Mount Prospect Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount
Prospect have reviewed the recorrmendation of the Safety Commission and have
detennined that the same is for the best interests of the Village of Mount
Prospect;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF 'IRUSTEES OF
THE VIILAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION 1: That all citizens of the Village of Mount Prospect be made
aware that the Mount Prospect Fire Department may enter private homes only
upon invitation and request by the owner or lessee thereof for the purpose of
conducting a home fire inspection.
SECTION 2: That as public officials we, the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect shall continue to foster with
greater interest and emphasis for the above mentioned purposes the inspection
of homes by members of the Mount Prospect Fire Department.
SECTION 3: This Resolution shall be in full force and effect frcrn and
after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
