The Vanarsdale's also told about the flooding problem they and their neighbors have in their backyards. Mr. Janonis explained that the Public Works Director is very familiar with their issue and is working on a plan to resolve the flooding. Mr. Janonis went on to explain that there are a number of similar locations throughout the Village and these flooding problems are being looked at and prioritized. While there is a limited amount of money available for the necessary mitigation; Mr. Janonis feels the Vanarsdale's problem ranks towards the top because it affects multiple properties. Elza Maloku, as a member of the Mount Prospect Youth Commission, gave an overview of the Youth Commission's goals. One of the goals is to develop a booklet for youth related activities in the community as a way of getting other young people involved. Mayor Wilks stated that she is in the process of re-appointing the current Youth Commission members. Rodger Kruse expressed thanks to the Police Department for citing drivers for speeding and other violations. Mr. Kruse stated that there were a few property maintenance issues that should be rectified. 1. William Street, 100 ft. south of Prospect Avenue - a road bump due to a previous trench 2. William Street & Berkshire Lane - dirt pile next to the curb, possibly due to a new pole installed by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). 3. Southwest corner of William Street & Sunset Road - pile of dirt and stone left over from construction. Ken Koeppen asked if the Village had a program that made rain barrels available to residents. Mr. Janonis said that the Village does not have a rain barrel program, but residents can contact the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District (MWRD). Mr. Koeppen asked where he could dispose of an old computer. Mayor Wilks recommended contacting the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County. Mal Holec gave kudos to the Mayor and Interfaith Council for the recent Mayor's Prayer Breakfast. Mr. Holec asked about the status of the: 1. Medical building on Rand Road now owned by Northwest Community Hospital (NWCH). 2. Wolf Road & Central Road retail space 3. Euclid Avenue & River Road abandoned Shell station. Mr. Janonis stated that NWCH was waiting for a Certificate of Need from the state before they can proceed. The retail space on Euclid Avenue is proceeding well and should be occupied soon. There is nothing to report in regards to the Shell station. Carol Tortorello expressed concern for bushes planted In the parkway, obstructing a fire hydrant at Hi Lusi Street & Lincoln Street. Jim Chilek expressed concern for the recently paved sidewalk area at the corner of Willow Road and Lavergne Drive. The Village Manager said that he would follow-up. Mr. Chilek distributed invites to "Brickworld." This event hosts thousands of displays, competitions and demonstrations of Lego building blocks. The event will be held on June 20th and 21 st at the Westin Chicago North Shore in Wheeling. Thomas Tezky stopped by to update staff on property maintenance issues at his home. He currently has a mattress strapped to the roof of his car waiting for garbage day. He also has a pile of wood chips in the front of the house. He has hired a company to pick-up the debris, which should be completed next week. Richard Rupprecht asked about potential solutions for the flooding he is experiencing in his backyard. Mr. Janonis explained to everyone that Mr. Rupprecht's home backs up to the Vanarsdales. As discussed earlier, the Public Works Director is working on a solution to the flooding problem. Mr. Rupprecht expressed concern about the trimming of his pear tree in the parkway a couple of years ago. He stated that the tree was butchered. Mr. Janonis explained that the Village has the trees on a 5 year cycle for trimming. Since they are only trimmed every 5 years the trimming is aggressive, but it is in the best interest of the tree. The people that service the trees are well- trained and, while the tree may look bad for the short term, it will be healthier in the long run. David Shein brought up the idea of the Village having their own script for retail benefits. Mr. Janonis stated that they are currently looking at this idea. There is potentially merit for the Mount Prospect businesses and the Village. Greg O'Brien stopped by to introduce himself as the recently elected Elk Grove Township trustee. A question and answer session arose in regards to Township business and tax levees. The meeting was adjourned at 11 :00 AM. ~~ -p-. Respectfully Submitted, Michael J. Figolah Fire Chief
