MAYORS REPORT 04/08/2009 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" APRIL 12 -18,2009 WHEREAS, our nation's school, academic, public and special libraries make a difference in the lives of millions of Americans, today, more than ever; and WHEREAS, librarians are trained professionals, helping people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the information they need to live, learn and work in a challenging economy; and WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American Dream - places for opportunity, education, self-help and lifelong learning; and WHEREAS, library use is up nationwide among all types of library users, continuing a decade-long trend; and WHEREAS, libraries play a vital role in supporting the quality of life in their communities; and WHEREAS, libraries can help you discover a world of knowledge, both in person and online, as well as personal service and assistance in finding what you need, when you need it; and WHEREAS, libraries are a key player in the national discourse on intellectual freedom, equity of access, and narrowing the "digital divide;" and WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are celebrating National Library Week with The Campaign for America's Libraries. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the week of April 12 - 18, 2009 as "NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK" and I encourage all residents to visit the library this week to take advantage of the wonderful library resources and thank their librarians and library workers for making information accessible to all who walk through the library's doors. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 8th day of April 2009 PROCLAMATION "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" April 19-25, 2009 "Bring Communities Together for Children - Children Bring Communities Together" WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect, Mt. Prospect Child Care Center, and other local organizations in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and WHEREAS, the future of the Village of Mount Prospect and the State of Illinois depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to young children today; and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 19-25, 2009 as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all individuals to recognize and support the needs of young children in ours and neighboring communities.
