RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION REGARDING PROCUREMENT OF
PRODUCTS CONTAINING RECYCLED MATERIAL$
WHEREAS, it is apparent that the cost of waste disposal shall be
increasing greatly in the near future due to various causes,
including the shortage of landfill space, more expensive
technologies of waste management, and the expenses associated
with increased enforcement of waste management regulations; and
WHEREAS, recycling is one method to remove a significant
percentage of waste from the solid waste stream and potentially
reduce disposal costs; and
WHEREAS, successful recycling programs depend on the collection
and processing of recyclable materials, the remanufacture of
products from such materials, and the purchase of those products
by consumers; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the citizens of Mount
Prospec~ to promote all components of a successful recycling
Drogram in ~he Village.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE FiAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Village of Mount Prospect shall research
the availability of products containing recycled materials.
These products shall contain post consumer and/or secondary
recycled materials, the first priority being post consumer.
SECTION TWO: That these products should be purchased whenever it
is economically feasible and a higher cost of products
manufactured from recyclable materials when compared to products
made from virgin materials shall no~ necessarily exclude them
from consideration. Also, no purchase specifications shall be
devised to exclude comparable products made from recycled
materials.
SECTION THREE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approve in the manner
provided by law.
