HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 34-93 08/17/1993 AF/ RESOLUTION NO. 34-93 A RESOLUTION ACKNOVVLEDGING THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT PUBLIC LIBRARY VVHEREAS, in 1930 the Mount Prospect Woman's Club collected 300 used books, put them on single tier shelves in a one-room schoolhouse and once a week rolled out the shelves in order to offer the residents of the Village an opportunity to borrow a book; and VVHEREAS, in 1943 a referendum was approved providing for taxes to support the Library and, with the generous assistance from the Chicago Public Library, the 3,000 residents of the Village were able to enjoy the benefits of the 2,988 volumes; and VVHEREAS, the first Library Building was built in 1950 at the corner of Busse Avenue and Emerson Street, serving the residents of the Village from that location until 1976 when a new, modem facility was dedicated at 10 South Emerson Street, providing expanded areas for books and materials, an automated circulation system, a 125 seat meeting room, a large children's section, to name a few; and VVHEREAS, in 1993, with a population of 53,170, the Mount Prospect Public Library has a collection of 270,697 books, has a circulation of 647,599 and is open to serve the public 78 hours per week; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Public Library continues to grow, offering more services and convenience to the residents of the Village; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby express sincere congratulations to the Library Board of the Mount Prospect Public Library on its 50th Anniversary and do further express appreciation for the many years of service to the residents of the Village of Mount Prospect. SECTION 31NO: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
