HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 15-95 05/16/1995 RESOLUTION NO.15-95 A RESOLUTION ACKNOWLEDGING THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF HERBERT L. WEEKS WHEREAS, HERBERT L. WEEKS has served the Village of Mount Prospect faithfully and with distinction for 36 years, beginning his career as a member of the Mount Prospect Water Department on September 21, 1959; being promoted to Deputy Public Works Director in May 1965 and finally, being appointed to the position of Director of Public Works on October 1, 1977; and WHEREAS, with his appointment to the position of Director of Public Works, HERBERT L. WEEKS became only the second person in the history of the Village to hold that position; and WHEREAS, under the leadership of HERBERT L. WEEKS, the Department of Public Works grew and diversified to meet the expanding needs of the Village during the 1970s and 1980s when Mount Prospect was growing rapidly both in size and population; and WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments, HERBERT L. WEEKS was a guiding force in Mount Prospect's acquisition of a permanent supply of Lake Michigan water, the development of a nationally recognized Urban Forestry Program and the creation of a comprehensive Infrastructure Repair and Replacement Program; and WHEREAS, when the Village of Mount Prospect was struck by various natural disasters over the years, the Public Works Department, under the direction of HERBERT L. WEEKS, provided around-the-clock emergency services to stricken residents, all of which was done with minimal disruption to the everyday services expected and required by the balance of the Village; and WHEREAS, HERBERT L. WEEKS has been recognized on many occasions by his peers for his professionalism and innovative thinking in the Public Works' field including recipient of the Tree City U.S.A. Award for ten consecutive years and being nominated as one of the country's top ten Public Works Directors in 1987; and WHEREAS, under the leadership of HERBERT L. WEEKS, the Mount Prospect Public Works Department has hosted a Public Works Open House for the last sixteen years as a means of educating Mount Prospect residents about the services provided through this vital Village Department; and WHEREAS, following a career that spans nearly one-half of Mount Prospect's life as a Village, HERBERT L. WEEKS has come to personify the best our community has to offer -- his presence has left an indelible mark on Mount Prospect making it a better place to live, work and raise a family; and WHEREAS, HERBERT L. WEEKS will retire from service to the Village of Mount Prospect on May 31, 1995. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: ECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby acknowledge the many lasting contributions of HERBERT L. WEEKS dudng his 36 years of outstanding service to our great Village and its residents. SECTION TWO: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby express their sincere appreciation to HERBERT L. WEEKS and his wife, Pat, for their unwavering devotion to the Village and do further extend best wishes to them both for happiness in their retirement years. SECTION THREE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby declare Saturday, May 20, 1995 to be HERBERT L. WEEKS' Day in the Village of Mount Prospect and encourage all Mount Prospect residents to honor HERBERT L. WEEKS by attending the Public Works Open House on that day. SECTION FOUR: That a copy of this Resolution be presented to HERBERT L. WEEKS as a permanent record of the recognition, respect and reverence expressed herein. SECTION FIVE: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. AYES: Mayor Gerald L.
