Emerson Street Thursday, March 23, 2023 8:00 a.m. The meeting of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of the Village of Mount Prospect nd was held on Thursday, September 22 in the third floor Executive Conference Room in the Village Hall, 50 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois. CALL TO ORDER Jim Drew called the meeting to order at 8:00 a.m. Commissioners Katriina McGuire, Dan Novak, Jim Peterson, David Roe and Tom Zander were present. Also present was Bill Cooney, Director of Community Development. APPROVAL OF MINUTES The minutes of September 22, 2022 meeting were reviewed and approved unanimously. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD No comments. OLD BUSINESS Development Update Mr. Cooney provided a brief update on various developments throughout the Village. NEW BUSINESS American Rescue Plan Act Update Mr. Cooney provided an update on how the Village is using ARPA funds for three programs; the New Construction Job Retention and Recruitment Program, the Green Building Grant Program and the Website Development Program. He indicated that they have initiated the first two programs and have received eight applications for the website program and two for the Green Village of Mount Prospect | Page 2 Building Program to date. He stated that they had promoted the programs on the Village’s website, social media and e-mail blasts to Chamber of Commerce members. Business Visitation Program Mr. Cooney stated that he was interviewing candidates for the Development Planner position that has been vacant since Connor Harmon left back in the fall. He indicated that once the new staff was in place that he intended to re-initiate the EDC business visits. The group indicated that early morning visits were preferred so that they did not conflict with their work schedules. The Commission agreed that the goal for the EDC is to make at least two visits a month and to ensure that the visits were scheduled evenly throughout the Village. Branding Plan Mr. Cooney distributed the final Branding Plan that the Village Board approved back in early 2020, just before the pandemic hit and put a hold on the program. He stated that the Village recently hired a Director of Marketing to implement many of the suggested actions in the plan. In addition, the soon to be hired Development Planner will assist with social media options to tout key projects in the Village. He indicated that he would invite both new hires to the next EDC meeting to discuss their plans and to solicit input from the commission. 2023 EDC Goals The commission discussed their goals for the upcoming year and after much discussion agreed that they would focus on restarting the business visitation program and implementing the branding program.
