PRESENT: DEREK STEINWEG, CHAIRMAN ADAM KIEL ERIC LOGISZ DANIEL MILEWSKI ALEX OPLAWSKI NANDINI ROY A/A DAVID SCHEIN A/A PATTI WALPOLE CINDY RUMORE, SECRETARY ABSENT: A/A GEORGE CLOWES, A/A BRIAN GILLIGAN, A/A RICHARD LOHRSTORFER, A/A KIMBERLEY NAGEL GUESTS: MAYOR IRVANA WILKS MERRILY RUETSCHE – PROSPECTIVE NEW MEMBER CALL TO ORDER Chairman Derek Steinweg called the June 04, 2008 Youth Commission meeting to order at 7:41 p.m. in the first floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois. ROLL CALL Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll. MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 04, 2008 APPROVAL OF MINUTES Daniel Milewski, seconded by Adam Kiel, moved to approve the minutes of the May 07, 2008 Youth Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval. GUESTS Mayor Irvana Wilks introduced prospective new member Merrily Ruetsche. Mayor Wilks also advised that she has received an additional Youth Commission application and will be conducting interviews. Mayor Wilks volunteered to help Youth Commission members with Parliamentary procedures and role playing for new members. A/A Patti Walpole submitted handouts on “How to Run a Meeting” and “Parliamentary Procedures” for copy and distribution to members. PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE Eric Logisz, Daniel Milewski, Alex Oplawski COMMITTEES Members reorganized and consolidated committees. Daniel Milewski, seconded by Nandini Roy, moved to eliminate the Community Volunteer Committee. Motion carried by unanimous approval. VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS Chairman Derek Steinweg passed around the sign up sheet for members to choose a Village commission / organization meeting to attend and report on youth related issues. Members reviewed the dates and signed up for various meetings. Agendas for the Commission meetings are posted on the Village website. YOUTH COMMISSION SURVEY Chairman Derek Steinweg contacted Fred Steinmiller with the Lion’s Club regarding the Youth Commission th conducting their survey at the 4 of July Lion’s Village Fair. He suggested Sunday, July 6, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Daniel Milewski to contact former Youth Commission member Alyssa Hillman to check the status of the survey. RECRUITMENT COMMITTEE Adam Kiel, Nandini Roy, Derek Steinweg Chairman Derek Steinweg contacted interested members on the Mount Prospect Public Library Teen Advisory Board who were interested in joining the Youth Commission. Former Youth Commission members set up the display case at the Mount Prospect Library. 2 MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES JUNE 04, 2008 OLD BUSINESS CAPANNARI’S COUPONS Chairman Derek Steinweg to contact Capannari’s to follow up on ice cream coupons and to discuss continuation of the program. NEW BUSINESS YOUTH COMMISSION ELECTIONS Youth Commission elections for the 2008-2009 year were conducted at the May meeting. Steve Long, seconded by Alyssa Hillman moved to elect Derek Steinweg to the position of Chairman of the Youth Commission. Motion carried by unanimous approval. Steve Long, seconded by Derek Steinweg moved to elect Eric Logisz to the position of Co-Chair of the Youth Commission. Motion carried by unanimous approval. Derek Steinweg, seconded by Steve Long moved to elect Daniel Milewski to the position of Treasurer of the Youth Commission. Motion carried by unanimous approval. At the June meeting, members held the election for the position of Historian of the Youth Commission. Daniel Milewski, seconded by Erik Logisz moved to elect Nandini Roy to the position of Historian of the Youth Commission. Motion carried by unanimous approval. FAMILY FRENCH FESTIVAL Mayor Wilks advised the second Family French Festival is scheduled for Wednesday, July 16, 2008 from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Library. Youth Commission assisted with last year’s festival. Interested Youth Commission members were invited to help with the event and should contact Mayor Wilks if able to attend. MOTION TO ADJOURN Nandini Roy, seconded by Adam Kiel, moved to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval. MEETING ADJOURNED Chairman Derek Steinweg adjourned the meeting at 8:15 p.m. 3
