ORDINANCE NO. 857
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 22.204 REFERRING TO
SEWER CONNECTIONS
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the President and Board of
Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County, Illinois:
Section 1. That Section 22.204 be and is hereby amended to
I read as follows:
'I. "Section 22.204 Sewer Connections
I (a) Connection repairs and costs for connection to the
I Village sewer system:
The actual connection of any drain or pipe with the Village
sewer system shall be made under the direction of the Plumbing
Inspector. All materials for connection and pipes for drains
shall conform to the specifications which have been approved
and adopted from time to time by the Board of Trustees and
kept on file by the Clerk.
The cost of such connections from the Village sewer system
to the premises as well as the cost for all repairs for
service drains or pipes between the premises to the Village
sewer system shall be made by and at the expense of the
person, firm or corporation owning the premises served. The
Village may, in case of an emergency, repair any service
pipe or drain and the cost of such repair shall be repaid
to the Village by the owner of the premises served upon receipt
from the Village of a bill for the labor and material involved.
(b) Types of Sewer Connections allowed and prohibited:
(1) Where a building is connected to separate sanitary sewers,
all sewage originating within the building shall be discHarged
therein. The discharge of drainage from downspouts, window
wells, building footing drain tile, outside area drains, and
other drainage from any source whatever, is excluded from
discharging into sanitary sewers.
(2) Permissible combined sewer connections:
Where a building is to be connected to a combined sewer,
all sewage originating within the building and drainage from
building drain tile, window wells and area drains shall be
discharged therein. The direct discharge of roof drainage is
specifically excluded from connection to combined sewers.
Where a building is constructed or reconstructed so that the
elevation of the basement floor or of the crawl space is greater
than one (1) foot below the elevation of the top of the nearest
downstream manhole on the combined sewer, then the following
methods shall be used to provide backwater protection: All
sewage and drainaee oririnating below grade shall be collected
in a suitable sump or ejector and shall be discharged by autcmatic
equipment into an overhead fravity sewer.
(c) Roof Water Discharge:
Under no circumstances ahall rain water run off from
roofs be drained in any way into the plumbing system of the
building or be connected so as to drain directly into the

public sewer without first being discharged onto the ground.
It shall be incumbent on the building constractor to provide
proper site grading and drainage so that such roof run-off
discharge does not pond on the building site or any properties
and that such drainage is conducted to the street or area
drain."

Section 2. That this ordinance shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage, approval and publicaton accordinr
to law.
