Saccotelli, Patricia Usnik, Robert Usnik Not Attending: Gabriel Saintus Guests: Gerald "Skip" Farley; Janice Farley I. Call to order: Chair Bob Usnik called the meeting to order at 6:02 pm. II. Citizens to be heard: None III. Approval of the minutes: Arlene Juracek moved to approve the minutes from March 18, 2021 and Christine Barr seconded the motion. The minutes were approved. IV. Chair's Comments: Bob Usnik a. Welcome new Mayor — Bob Usnik welcomed Mayor Paul Hoefert. b. Newest member Mary Beth Rankin, who is attending her first in-person meeting, introduced herself and shared her background with the Commission. c. Sevres, France — A virtual meeting with Sevres on Tuesday, May 18 where we introduced Mayor Hoefert to Gregoire de la Ronciere, Assunta Mesmin and Thierno-B Ndiaye. Bob Usnik updated the Commission on some of the new things going on in Sevres. Members who have traveled to Sevres shared experiences with those members who have not yet visited our Sister City. d. Open positions —The Commission currently has two open positions. V. Mayor's Comments: Mayor Paul Hoefert a. Mayor Hoefert said he enjoyed meeting the people from Sevres. He shared what he has learned about the Sister Cities organization as a whole, and Mt. Prospect's involvement with Sevres. He stated that he is fully supportive of the Commission. VI. Treasurer's Report: Bob Usnik presented the Treasurer's Report in Greg Bernert's absence. Denise Rano moved to approve and Arlene Juracek seconded. The Treasurer's Report was approved. VII. Committee Reports: a. French Market—Judy McGinnis. During the month of March, approximately 100 invitations were sent to vendors. Ten venders responded, and those early responders will receive free tents. Information will be re -sent to vendors who did not yet respond. Fee payment for booths will be handled through Eventbrite. It is still uncertain on which side of the tracks the Commission's booth will be located. Judy McGinnis has already re- priced some items that didn't sell last time. Commission members who have items that could be sold at the French Market should hold onto them and bring them to the event. VIII. Open Discussion a. July 4 Parade —The parade will be held in 2021. Denise Rano presented the idea of ordering umbrellas to shield participating members from the heat. Arlene Juracek moved to purchase 15 umbrellas and Judy McGinnis seconded. Denise Rano will oversee the purchase. b. Celebration of Cultures —The event is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, August 29, 2021. Trustee Colleen Saccotelli will purchase the giveaways. c. Arlene Juracek invited Commission members to her house for a celebration of Bastille Day following the next meeting. d. Denise Rano inquired whether we should plan any other events, specifically Trivia Night. There are concerns that it is the most popular event and is usually crowded. Bob Usnik suggested keeping on our radar because everything depends on COVID conditions. e. To mask or not to mask was discussed because situations are changing constantly. The Commission will follow mandates from the State as it applies to our events. IX. Adjournment: Denise Rano moved to adjourn, and Ed Juracek seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 6:44 pm.
