JURACEK, has been a resident of the Village of Mount Prospect for the past 44 years, moving here in 1977 with her husband Edward and children Robert, Andrea and Grant; and WHEREAS, ARLENE A. JURACEK has been an active, responsible, considerate and thoughtful mother, neighbor, volunteer, businesswoman, and citizen throughout her many years in the Village; and WHEREAS, ARLENE A. JURACEK graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanics, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and later earned a Master of Management from Northwestern University; and WHEREAS, a respected business leader, ARLENE A. JURACEK defied professional stereotypes to become a successful and esteemed engineer and executive whose career spanned 34 years, attaining the position of Vice President of Energy Acquisitions for Exelon Corporation and its ComEd subsidiary, and upon her retirement, left a legacy of numerous accomplishments and achievements; and, WHEREAS, forever passionate about service to others ARLENE A. JURACEK has supported a number of community-based organizations including the Mount Prospect Historical Society, the Jane Addams Hull House Association, United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, Mount Prospect Garden Club and the Mount Prospect Interfaith Council to name just a few; and WHEREAS, ARLENE A. JURACEK has been intimately involved in the thoughtful development of the Village of Mount Prospect for 28 years, beginning in 1993 with her appointment to the Transportation Safety Commission until 1997 when she joined the Zoning Board of Appeals, was appointed chairperson in 1999 and when the ZBA merged with the Plan Commission to form the Planning and Zoning Commission in 2001 became Chairperson until her election to the Village Board of Trustees in 2 00 7; and; WHEREAS, in 2 00 7, ARLENE A. JURACEK ran a successful campaign for the office of Village Trustee and was resoundingly re-elected to office in 2011; and WHEREAS, in 2013 ARLENE A. JURACEK was duly elected Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect and in 2017 was elected to her second and what is her final term as Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, with unwavering and abiding support for Mount Prospect businesses, ARLENE A. JURACK promoted and celebrated grand openings, re -openings, anniversaries and ground breaking ceremonies by hosting ribbon -cutting rorom""h9v thrmiohmit the Vill"ow • ""d lV erle Curl')If_u aturl VI')lVrrrlWGller GlelerlllVrl,1UCalllle,) Ut DUf-fllrlX leu,)rl If -U10 FWA, and Aspen Trails Park, along with the construction of a supplemental pump station at Levee 37; collectively reducing the threat of flooding for hundreds of nearby homes; and, WHEREAS, Arlene A. Juracek unselfishly gave of her time and talent to ensure the Village was well -represented at the regional and state levels; she represented Mount Prospect in numerous ways that allowed for local concerns to be heard, to learn from our peers, and to influence important decision -makers by serving as: O'Hare Noise Compatibility Commission Chair 2015-2019, having represented the village since 2 00 7, and receiving the 2019 Walt Gillfallan Award, a national recognition given by the UC -Davis Air Quality Research Center for exemplary achievements and contributions to noise abatement and sustainability in aviation; and Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency, Board Member 2008-2021 and Board Chair 2019-2021; and Northwest Municipal Conference President 2018-2019; service as co-chair of the Bicycle & Pedestrian and Legislative Committees; and member of the Executive Committee; partner with the Illinois Municipal League to achieve public safety pension investment consolidation, testimony before state legislative committees; and Metropolitan Mayors Caucus Executive Board member, Housing and Community Development Committee Co -Chair, and the Regional Covid-19 Task Force member; and WHEREAS, during her years in office, ARLENE A. JURACEK promoted and advanced many key development and redevelopment initiatives adding density and vitality to a burgeoning downtown, including 20West, Maple Street Lofts, 10 North, and Prospect Place developments and a vision for the redevelopment of Block 56 on the horizon; and WHEREAS, ARLENE A. JURACEK proudly supports the development and construction of Kenzie Senior Housing, Mount Prospect Horizon and Mount Prospect Senior Living, realizing a Strategic Plan goal to provide safe and affordable senior housing and opportunities to age in community with grace and dignity; and WHEREAS, ARLENE A. JURACEK answered the wishes of the community and fulfilled a decades -long Strategic Planning initiative and personal goal of securing plans for the construction of a downtown grocer that will serve commuters, downtown dwellers, business owners, and the entire community of Mount Prospect for many decades to come; and WHEREAS, under the auspice of ARLENE A. JURACEK the Sister Cities relationship with Sevres, France has remained vibrant with numerous ongoing civic ""d cfllffir"l qYA""oov• ""d 'Lux lucure if/ zuly cu vJ/Icluce uc crle weuucrcx v/ rler ,)vrc nuoerc cu l,uurerc, witnessed by her husband Edward, her other children Grant and Andrea, and her grandson Lucian; and WHEREAS, faced with extraordinary challenges and unprecedented demands brought on by the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, ARLENE A. JURACEK represented the Northwest Municipal Conference on Task Force, interacting with the Governor's Office and state and local public health agencies to coordinate the Chicago region's response to the pandemic and effectively led the citizens of Mount Prospect through the crisis with candor, perseverance, empathy, and pragmatic hope; and WHEREAS, her civic commitment will continue after leaving office as a member of the Illinois Finance Authority Board, a gubernatorial appointment made in 2015 and ratified by the Illinois Senate; by assisting the Authority to provide access to low-cost capital to public and private institutions to foster economic development, create and retain jobs, and improve quality of life for Illinois residents; and WHEREAS, through her responsiveness to the citizenry, through her dedication and leadership, and through her intense love for this community the Village of Mount Prospect remains one of the most desirable, robust and fiscally responsible rising communities in the northwest suburbs; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect along with the community do hereby acknowledge and recognize ARLENE A. JURACEK for her years of service to the community and wish her and with Edward a long and fulfilling future. SECTION TWO: That APRIL 20, 2021 is hereby declared, ARLENE A. JURACEKDAY, in the Village of Mount Prospect. SECTION THREE That an official copy of this Resolution be suitably prepared and presented to ARLENE A. JURACEK as a perpetual memento. SECTION FOUR: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. AYES: Trustees Paul W. Hoefert, Michael A.
