HomeMy WebLinkAbout4. MAYORS REPORT 04/18/2007 PROCLAMA TION "Week of the Young Child" April 22-28, 2007 WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect, Mt. Prospect Child Care Center, and other local organizations in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, by calling attention to the need for high-quality early childhood services for all children and families within our community, these groups hope to improve the quality and availability of such services; and WHEREAS, the future of Mount Prospect and the State of Illinois depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to young children today; and WHEREAS, high quality early childhood services represent a worthy commitment to our children's futures. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 22-28, 2007 as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all individuals to recognize and support the needs of young children in ours and neighboring communities. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside for the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, provide habitat for wildlife, beautify our community, and produce life-giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, food, wood for our homes and fuel for our fires. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 27, 2007, as "ARBOR DA Y" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all citizens to observe Arbor Day by attending the ceremonial tree-planting at Lion's Park Elementary School, 300 East Council Trail, on Friday, April 27,2007, at 10:30 a.m. Irvana K. PROCLAMA TION WOMAN'S CLUB OF MOUNT PROSPECT 80TH ANNIVERSARY WHEREAS, in 1927a small group of enterprising women met in the "Little White School House" toform the Woman's Club of Mount Prospect with Mrs. Charles Pakonian serving as the first President; and WHEREAS, in 1930 the Woman's Club of Mount Prospect became an affiliate of the lllinois Federation of Women's Club and in 1940 joined the General Federation; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Woman's Club is a non-political philanthropic organization dedicated to the betterment of human welfare; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Woman's Club provides scholarships to Mount Prospect students, makes annual contributions to local institutions including the Senior Advisory Council, the Mount Prospect Food Pantry and Nurses Lending Closet and the Mount Prospect Historical Society; and WHEREAS, solely dedicated to the health, social and economic needs of all mankind, the Mount Prospect Woman's Club, supports and participates in numerous projects including; Prevention of Child Abuse, Brain Research, Cancer Research, Canine Companions, Operation Smile, Burn Camp and the American Heart Association; and WHEREAS, the Mount Prospect Woman's Club celebrates its 80th anniversary and recognizes the selfless commitment of members, past and present, who contribute thousands of volunteer hours to various organizations, hospitals and humanitarian projects. NOW, THEREFORE, 1, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 18, 2007 as a day of celebration and gratitude for "MOUNT PROSPECT WOMAN'S CLUB 80TH ANNIVERSARY" and I encourage everyone to recognize the great works of this organization. PROCLAMATION "SENIOR CELEBRATION DAY" MAY 16,2007 WHEREAS, education is a lifelong process; and WHEREAS, public education is a community enterprise, and community education philosophy advocates full use of public facilities, programs and services by every age group in the community; and WHEREAS, the skills, talents and experiences of senior citizens are untapped resources in many communities and intergenerational cooperation promotes efficient use of human resources; and WHEREAS, community education promotes the use of community resources, community volunteers in schools, senior citizen centers and community agencies, and maximizes the use of human resources to provide educational opportunities for residents of all ages; and WHEREAS, the goal of community education is to promote a sharing, caring, learning community; and WHEREAS, senior citizens have earned our respect and recognition for their past accomplishments, and their present and future contributions; and WHEREAS, Senior Celebration Day is co-sponsored by Township High School District 214 Community Education and the Village of Mount Prospect to encourage and develop programs and activities to meet the needs of all the residents in High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim May 16, 2007 as a day in recognition of the "NINETEENTH ANNUAL SENIOR CELEBRATION DA Y" and call upon the residents of High School District 214 and the Village of Mount Prospect to recognize and celebrate the bonds they have discovered, the partnership they have formed, and the sense of community they have strengthened through community education programs.
