HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 31-71 09/21/1971 RESOLUTION NUMBER 31-71 A RESOLUTION URGING THE ILLINOIS ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY TO APPROVE PERMITS FOR THE FOREST PRESERVE DISTRICT WHEREAS, the Illinois Pollution Control Board has ordered the closing, as of September 16, 1971, of the Forest Pre- serve District North Burning Site, located on the west side of Portwine Road, approximately one half (1/2) mile north of Dundee Road, near Wheeling, Illinois; and WHEREAS, many communities in the Northwest and North suburbs, including the Village of Mount Prospect, had been trucking diseased Elm trees to the said North Burning Site; and WHEREAS, the availability of the Forest Preserve District Burning Site has in fact reduced pollution by enabling the municipal users thereof to wage a more successful battle against the Dutch Elm disease and other diseases of trees; and WHEREAS, the stockpiling of diseased trees until they may be hauled away or until another burning facility is found will bring the threat of diseases to the entire Elm tree population; and WHEREAS, the Forest Preserve District has requested the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to permit a variance for the continued burning of diseased and other trees at the Wheeling Site; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency be and is hereby urged to approve the variance re- quested and to grant permits to the Forest Preserve District to allow the reopening of the Forest Preserve District op- erated North Burning Site. SECTION TWO: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
