Prospeet Special Events Commission Meeting Minutes August 5, 2006 Attendees: Sandy DiCaro, Dale Draznin, Janice Farley, Skip Farley, Eileen Gattas, Mike Janonis, Jim Uszler, Teresa Wolf, Della Baldwin, Chris Greco Absent: Martha Helm (N), Linda Hoefert, Jill Friedrichs (N), Paul Seils (N), Laury Youngquist (N) Chairman Skip Farley called the meeting to order at 9:03 am. A motion was made and seconded to approve the minutes of July 1,2006. The financial report as of July 31,2006 was presented by Mike Janonis. Do-It-Yourself Sousa - Skip read Martha's report and thanked committee members for their help. There was a variety of music, and it was an uplifting experience. Combining the Sousa with the Community Band gave this event new life. Registration started at 30 and reached 51 by the end. The extra flags will be stored in Skip's garage for future use. Fine Arts Festival: Teresa reported that overall everything went well. She received two thank you notes from the young ladies who received the scholarship awards. Based on feedback, a suggestion for next year is to not sell food. 4th of July Parade: Jill's report was read by Skip. This was a very successful event, and Jill received a lot of positive feedback from community members. Glen and the Public Works Department were fantastic as always. The commission was urged to enter into discussion concerning the placement of organization and their floats, particularly the Library's float, Jesse White Tumblers, walking entries with young children, etc, in an effort to better designate community prominence of the organization and to enhance the potential lessening of gaps between some floats. Suggestions for lessening of gaps included getting parade vests from Public Works, and having high school students volunteer to help. The Parade can be seen on Channel 17. Bicycle Ride, October 14,2006: Teresa reported that the committee met, and the event will be held at the same location, and use the same course as previous rides. She is looking for a different school to make a donation to. T-shirts will cost approximately $1000. For 2007, the committee is considering a Family Fun Fitness Day, to include the bike ride, but also a walk/run event as well. This would still be sponsored by the Special Event Commission. Celestial Celebration XIV: The commission approved the increase in Ralph Wilder's contract. The Oscar /Red Carpet theme was discussed. A motion was made by Della Baldwin and seconded by Chris Greco to approve this theme. The motion was approved. Next sub-committee meeting is August 21, 7 PM at Skip's house, and will be every 3rd Monday night going forward. The meeting was adjourned at 9:52 am.
