INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
MINUTES
COFFEE WITH COUNCIL
TRUSTEES' ROOM, VILLAGE HALL
10:00 A.M.
AUGUST 9, 1991
The meeting was called to order at 10:00 a.m. Present were
Trustees Leo Floros, George Clowes, Paul Hoefert and Irvana Wilks,
Acting Village Manager David Jepson, and Police Chief Ronald
Pavlock.gR
Merrill & Marie Cotten of Lake Briarwood, 439-4834, requested an
update on the Lake Briarwood signal. They also wanted to let the
Board Members present know that they support Mayor Farley's
position on the liquor issue currently under discussion by the
Board. The Cottens then complimented the Mount Prospect Police
Department's Crime Prevention Unit, Officer Bill Roscop and Officer
Barb Felten, for their actions at the Hometown Days which they felt
clearly indicated a professional law enforcement agency.
Lillian Perham, 501 W. Dempster, 956-6333 (Home) 590-0390
(business), and Lana May, 300 S. Edward, 255-0617, expressed their
concerns with individuals playing baseball on the property behind
their complex who park their vehicles on their complex property.
Ms. Perham and Ms. May claim these people have slashed the tires
of those residents who tried to enforce the parking restrictions.
They also reported there is a problem with speeding cars on
Dempster. They were advised that command staff of the Police
Department would contact them this week in an attempt to analyze
their problems. They were also advised that private property
concerns have been handled by adjacent apartment complex managers
by hiring private security and involving the residents in a
cooperative effort with the local law enforcement agency.
Chief Pavlock explained to the Board Members present that the
Village Manager's office has set a policy of advising these
complexes that they must do their part in hiring private security
and using their resources to create a quality of life for their
residents. It is not fair for one complex to expect the Police
Department to be their private security operation. The Police
Chief advised that he and staff will meet with the complex
management and give them the appropriate direction to take, as has
been done with other complexes (see attachment).
