SAFETY COMMISSION
September 14, 1981
CALL TO ORDER
The regular meeting of the Mount Prospect Safety Commission
was held in the Village Hall on September 14; 1981. Chairman
Andrew Mitchell called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES
The mnue o the May 4, 1981 meeting of the Safety Commission
were read and approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Isgabella/Maple Streets
Re u s mor a 4 -Way stop Sign.
A motion was made by Art Coy, seconded by Dep8ty Police Chief
John Savage.
After considerable discussion, the residents in attendance at
the meeting presented a case for excessive speeding and screeching
of tires at the intersection of Isabella and Maple Streets.
Atter reviewing the 'requests and the numerous existing Stop
Signs in the area and the present traffic counts at the intersection
provided, by Dennis Valentine (Village Traffic Engineer). The Safety
Commission ion equested that the Village Engineer take another traffic
count of the area, the Safety Commission also requested that Deputy
Police Chief, John Savage review any accident reports. It is
reported by residents that there are many drivers speeding down
Maple Street. Special attention should be placed on the speeders.
The Safety Commission withheld action until the October meeting.

at the intersection of Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive.
Study is beingundertaken.
Huntington Drive/Route 83 - Traffic Signal
A request has been made or a tra is signal installation
at the intersection of Huntington°Drive and Route 83.
Study is being undertaken.
Lincoln Street/Busse Road - Traffic Signal
-A requst has been made for a trYfT_f6_`s_1`grFa1 installation
at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Busse Road.
Study is being undertaken.
HiLusi Avenue -° No Parking
A request for Nbb Pak'ing signs on the 100 block of South HiLusi.
A motion was made by Art Coy, seconded by Jackie Frank.
A five(5) day study was made in regards to Commuter parking.
The Safety Commission was unable to find an excessive parking
problem. The Safety Commission feels that posting parking
restrictions are not warranted. The request was denied by the
Safety Commission.
Emerson Street - No Parking
A request for No Parking signs on the 200 block of North Emerson.
A motion was made by Lee Beening, seconded by Jackie Frank
A five(5) day study was made on the 200 block of North Emerson in
regards to commuter parking.
The Safety Commission was unable to find an excessive parking problem.
The Safety Commission feels that posting parking 'restrictions is-`°
not warranted. The request was denied by the Safety Commission.

Refer t tie Safety Commission's recommendation of February 2,
1981 which states:
"Stop Signs -Since Wheeling Road is a collector street and
Business Center Drive will eventually be completed to
Wolf Road and become a collector street, the Commission
recommends that a'3 -Way Stop Sign be -installed at Wheeling
Road and Business Center Drive. It is also the recommendation
of the Safety Commission that the following Stop Signs are
installed.
A. Southbound Wheeling Road at Business Center Drive.
B. Eastbound Business Center Drive at Wheeling Road.
C. Westbound Business Center Drive at Wheeling Road.

It is further recommended by the Safety Commission that striping
of the streets Wheeling Road and Business Center Drive such as done
ion a divided highway be done as well as stop bars at the inter-
section and any other appropriate striping that would be necessary
to make this intersection safe.
Pin Oak - Stop Sign
Arequest fora Stop Sign has been made for eastbound Pin Oak
Drive at the intersection of River Road.
A motion was made by Art Coy, seconded by Jackie Frank, that
Chaper 18(Traffic Code) be amended to include the above item
and that the appropriate Stop Sign be installed. The motion
was approved.
Lama/Burr Oak - 3 Way StopSign
A request for a �--Way Stop - Sign at the intersection of Lama
Lane and Burr Oak.
A motion was made by Andy Mitchell, seconded by Police Chief
John Savage.
After reviewing the request and the numerous existing Stop Signs
in the -area, the Safety Commission requested the Village Engineer
to take traffic counts at the intersection. The Commission also
requested that the Deputy Police Chief review any accident reports
and report back to the Commission on Ocotber 5, 1981.
ADJOURNMENT
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at
10:00 P.M.
