HomeMy WebLinkAbout10/05/1981 SC MinutesMINUTES OF THE MOUNT PROSPECT SAFETY COMMISSION OCTOBER 5. 1981 CALL TO ORDER The regular meeting of the Mount Prospect Safety Commission was held in the Village Hall on October 5, 1981. Chairman Andrew Mitchell called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. ROLL CALL Present upon roll call: Andrew Mitchell Art Coy Dennis Valentine John Savage Lee Beening Jackie Frank James Hilliger APPROVAL OF MINUTES - Chairman - Vice Chairman - Village Traffic Engineer - Deputy Police Chief - Secretary - Commission Member - Village Fireman The Minutes of the September 14, 1981 Meeting of the Safety Commission were read. A motion was made by Art Coy and -seconded by Jackie Frank to approve the Minutes as read. Motion was approved. OLD BUSINESS ISABELLA/MAPLE STREETS Request for a 4 -way stop sign. A motion was made by Art Coy seconded by Andrew Mitchell. After considerable discussion and reviewing the numerous existing stop signs in the area and the present traffic counts at the intersection provided by Dennis Valentine (Village Traffic Engineer). The Safety Commission requested that the Village Engineer take another traffic count of the area. The Safety Commission also requested that Deputy Police Chief John Savage review any accident reports! It is reported by residents, that there are many drivers speeding down Maple Street. Special attention should be placed on the speeders. The Safety Commission withheld action until the November meeting. ALGONQUIN ROAD/BRIARWOOD DRIVE TRAFFIC SIGNAL A request has been made for a traffic signal installation at: the intersection of Algonquin Road and Briarwood Drive. A study is being undertaken. HUNTINGTON DRIVE/ROUTE 83 TRAFFIC SIGNAL A request has been made for a traffic signal installation at the intersection of Huntington Drive and Route 83. A study is being undertaken. LINCOLN STREET/BUSSE ROAD - TRAFFIC SIGNAL A request has been made for a traffic signal installation at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Busse Road. A study is being undertaken. NEW BUSINESS DALE/ISABELLA - REQUEST FOR A CHILDREN CROSSING SIGN A motion was made by Art Coy - seconded by Lee Beening. After considerable discussion it is recommended that a children crossing sign not be posted because the intersection is already controlled by a regulatory sign specifically a stop sign. The Safety Commission does recommend that the enbankment be removed or a guard-rail be installed to prevent the children riding bicycles down the enbankment onto the street. It is further recommended that the Police Department continue to give this intersection special attention as many drivers fail to make a full stop at the intersection. GREGORY SCHOOL - NO PARKING SIGNS DURING SCHOOL HOURS Former Gregory School has been sold to the Christian Life Church and the signs no longer serve any purpose. Also, the Pastor at the Christian Life Church requested the same action. - A motion was made by Art Coy - seconded by Dennis Valentine to amend the Section 18.2009 of the traffic code by deleting reference to the north side of Gregory Street between Elm and Williams Streets. Motion was approved. LOUIS/'EVERGREENSTOP SIGN A request has been made for a stop sign at the intersection of Louis and Evergreen. A study is being undertaken.
