Emerson w Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 MOUNT PROSPECT SAFETY COMMISSION Minutes March 6, 1978 The regular monthly meeting of the Mount Prospect Safety Com- mission was held in the Village Hall on March 6, 1978. The meeting was called to order by Ben Scola, Chairman, at 7:45 P.M. Members present were: Andy Mitchell, Art Coy, Harold Abramowski, Office Tom Daley, Mt. Prospect Police Department, and Mike Pekala, Deputy Village Engineer. Visitors to the meeting were Fire Chief Pairitz, Mt. Prospect Fire Department, and John Burneson, National Safety Council. I. The minutes of the February 16 meeting were approved. Mike Pekala Added that his partial presence was due to another meeting commitment. II. The April 29 Safety Commission sponsored School Safety Seminar was the next item of business. A. It was decided that pre -registration be terminated on Friday, April 21, 1978 to allow enough time for final arrangements. B. The list of invitations was expanded to: Arlington Heights School District 25, particularly Kensington School. All churches in Mount Prospect, particularly those which operate school buses. -� Park District, including Prospect Heights. - - Village of Skokie Safety Commission -- Girl Scout Leaders C. For adequate distribution, it was decided that 500 copies of the invitation should be printed. Harold Abramowski will compile the mailing list for Ben Scola who will do the actual mailing. D. A comprehensive outline of the Police Department's program was submitted to the Commission. E. Chief Pairitz volunteered to develop a seminar evaluation form by the April 3 Commission meeting. The Commission will review and adopt an evaluation form at that meeting. F. Chief Pairitz asked John Burneson to send him a detailed outline of John's subject material to minimize duplication of presentation. Safety Commission Meeting 3-6x78 Page 2. G. All members of the Safety Commission are to review the outlines submitted by the National Safety Council, Police Department and Fire Department in an effort to minimize duplication of material. III. Mike Pekala presented two items of new business for Commission review and action. A. Mike discussed the parking condition on the south side of Prospect Avenue between Mount Prospect Road and a point 560 feet west of Williams Street. Presently, parking is allowed on the shoulder. Mike's survey revealed that the cars are parked close to the edge of the traveled roadway creating a hazard to traffic. Further study revealed that there areadequate off-street parking facilities for the residences along Prospect Avenue. Based upon Mike's report, the Safety Commission agreed with his recommendation to post "No Parking Any Time" signs on the south side of Prospect Avenue along the frontage described above. B. Mike presented a traffic study of Russel and Isabella Streets as requested by Trustee Floros. After reviewing Mike's report, the Commission approved his recommendation to include the existing 25 MPH speed limit sign on Isabella Street between Main and Forest in the Mount Prospect Traffic Code and to notify Commonwealth Edison on the faulty street light. The Commission decided to visit the intersection before the next meeting and check operating speeds and sight distance restrictions for possible further action. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:45 P.M.
