Home My WebLink AboutOrd 2277 12/22/1970 ORDINANCE NO. 2277 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MOUNT PROSPECT TRAFFIC CODE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VIlLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECl', COOK COUNTY, IILINOIS: SECTION ONE: 'lliat Section 18.301 of Chapter 18 (the traffic Code) of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and the sarre is hereby further arrended to eliminate the time limit for temporary controls; so that hereafter the said Section 18.301 shall be and read as follows: "section 18.301. 'l'ernpor Controls. In cases of emergency, or when public hea th" safety or convenience require, the Vil:tage Manager may establish ternporary traffic controls" including the designation of one way streets and the regulation or restriction of parking on any street or alley; provided that such controls shall not become ef- fective until the posting of proper signs which must remain conspicu- ously displayed while said regulation is in effect." SECTION 'ThlO: 'lliat Section 18.601 of Article VI of the Traffic Code ( Chapter lB) contained in the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as arrended, be and the same is hereby further amended to eliminate a man- datory residential speed limit of 25 MPH when no signs are posted; so that the said Section 18.601 shall hereafter be and read as follows: "Section 18.601. General Speed Restrictions. A. No vehicle may be driven upon any highway of this Village at a speed which is greater than is reasonable and proper with regard to traffic conditions and the use of the highway" or endangers the safety of any person or property. 'llie fact that the sp~ed of a vehicle does not exceed the applicabilie maximum speed limit does not relieve the driver from the duty to decrease speed when approaching and crossing an intersection" when approaching and going around a curve" when approaching a hill crest" when travel- ing upon any narrow or winding roadway, or when special hazard exists with respect to pedestrians or other traffic or by reason of weather or highway conditions. Speed must be decreased as may be necessary to avoid colliding with any person or vehicle on or entering the highway in cornpliance with legal requirements and the duty of all persons to use due care. B. No person may drive a vehicle upon any highway of this Village at a speed which is greater than the applicable statutory maxi- mum speed limit established by paragraph C of this Section, or by Section 18.605. C. Unless some other speed restriction is established under this Chapter, the maxiITJIml speed limit in an urban district for all vehicles is: 1. 30 miles per hour; 2. 15 miles per hour in an alley; and 3. the said urban sp~ed limit may be increased as posted but not in excess of 65 miles per hour and may be diminished as posted but not less than 20 miles per hour, ,when such determination is passed and approved by ordinance" signposted, and included in Schedule I of the appendix to this Chapter.
