HomeMy WebLinkAboutOrd 2325 11/16/1971 ORDINANCE NUMBER 2325 AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE MOUNT PROSPECT BUILDING CODE BE IT ORDAINED BY THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: SECTION ONE: That paragraph (vii) of subsection (b) of Section 21.103 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and is hereby further amended in its entirety: retaining existing regulations and adding thereto additional general regulations for all elevators; so that hereafter the said paragraph (vii) of subsection (b) of Section 21.103 shall be and read as follows: "(vii) ELEVATOR CONSTRUCTION (a) Article 16 is hereby revised to include provlslons for the construction of all passenger type elevator equip- ment, in that all passenger elevator cabs and door openings shall be of a size large enough to accept a standard portable ambulance cot in its horizontal pos- ition. (b) In general, all elevators and elevator equipment shall be provided with: (1) Sight Guards: Sight guards shall be installed on all elevator and hoistway doors. This requirement will provide protection against entry into the elevator shaft by children or other unauthorized persons. (2) Automatic Scavenger: The addition of a require- ment for hydraulic elevators to be equipped with an automatic scavenger oil return line would eliminate any accumulation of hydraulic oil at the base of an elevator shaft. (3) Elevator equipment rooms which shall be completely I isolated from other areas of the building and shall be locked -- with the key or other unlocking device therefor being in the sole possession of the building custodian." SECTION TWO: That Section 21.104 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and is hereby further amended in its entirety: retaining existing regulations and adding thereto the adoption of the American Standard Safety Code for Elevators; so that hereafter the said Section 21.104 shall be and read as follows: "SECTION 21.104 ADOPTION OF THE NATIONAL FIRE CODE, THE AMERICAN INSURANCE ASSOCIATION CODE, THE AMERICAN STANDARD SAFETY CODE FOR ELEVATORS, AND THE CODE FOR THE INSTALLATION OF HEAT PRODUCING APPLIANCES, ETC. II I ,I . l' I i I I I I !I I! 1 I The 1971-72 Edition of the National Fire Code and the 1970 Edition of the American Insurance As- sociation Code are hereby adopted in their entirety, except such portions thereof as may be expressly deleted, modified, or amended by this Chapter 21 (Building Code) of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect. ( a) The 1965 Edition of the American Standard Safety Code for Elevators with its 1969 Supplement is hereby adopted, except such portions thereof as may be expressly deleted, modified, or amended by this Chapter 21 (Building Code) of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect." (b) I III SECTION THREE: That paragraph (8) of subsection (e) of Sect ion 21.313 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as i amended, be and is hereby further amended in its entirety, so that I hereafter the said paragraph (8) of the said subsection (e) of ,I Section 21.313 shall be and read as follows: II II I II Ii 11 I, "(8) (a) I Ii q II I, II II !I n I I I I II II II I I (b) ( c ) BUILDINGS FOR THE MANUFACTURE, STORAGE OR SALE OF COMBUSTIBLE GOODS OR MERCHANDISE. Throughout every fire-resistive building occupied in whole for the manufacture, storage or sale of combustible goods or merchandise, if over two stories in height or more than 7,500 square feet in floor area, or if over five stories in height regardless of floor area. Throughout every story occupied, in whole or in part, for the manufacture, storage or sale of com- bustible goods or merchandise in fire-resistive buildings over two stories in height or more than 7,500 feet in floor area, or over five stories in height regardless of floor area. Throughout every building of other than fire- resistive construction as herein defined, oc- cupied, in whole or in part, for the manufacture, storage, or sale of combustible goods or mer- chandise, if more than 7,500 square feet in floor area, or if over five stories in height regardless of floor area, or in such parts of buildings of this class as may be specified by the Chief of the Fire Department." SECTION FOUR: That paragraph (1) of subsection (b) of Section 21.314 of the Municipal Code of Mount Prospect of 1957, as amended, be and is hereby further amended to make provision for I master elevator keys; so that hereafter the said paragraph (1) , of subsection (b) of Section 21.314 shall be and read as follows: I I I I I I II " (b ) ELEVATORS - FIRE SERVICE (1) One elevator in each fire area shall be equipped with a Fire Department key control, located in the lobby at a place designated by the Fire Chief, to override all controls except pressure actuated door safety controls. The Fire Department service key provided shall be compatible with the Fire Depart- ment master key for all elevators located within the Village of Mount Prospect.1t '\ 1 ~ I Ii II ,I Ii I I I I I I" d I I II Ii L I SECTION FIVE: That this Ordinance shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage, approval, and publication in the manner provided by law.
