Adiournment Upcomina Meetinas: · July 20, 2006 · September 21 , 2006 · November 16, 2006 MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes March 16. 2006 Members Present: Tokiko Blaine Gerald Farley Janice Farley Melanie Karsen Cindy Kiel John Kom Mary Ann Sibrava Paul Seils Judy Thome Irvana Wilks Members Absent: Carole Bloomquist Lil Floros Dorothy Kucera Gary Randant Adelaide Thulin Staff Liaison: Maura EI Metennani The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. Judy Thome filled in for Chairperson Dorothy Kucera who was out of town. State Conventions Rachel Toeppen, Judy Thome and Dorothy Kucera planned to attend the State Convention April 28 and 29 in Springfield. The Commission had reserved a booth at the expo. A motion was made and passed that the Commission should pay the registration fee for those attending. French Salons Judy Thome gave a brief report on the French Salon evening that took place on February 21 at the Huber Home. Skip Farley made a presentation on French participation in the American Revolution. Wine and cheese were served and there was a French dessert presentation by Chef Tual. There was a game with French words and phrases and the group sang "Frere Jaques." 22 people attended, 14 of which were Commission members. High School Exchange 15 French students from Sevres visited. The Village will provide goodie bags and informational folders when the mayor and other commission members attend a breakfast with them. Both the Rotary clubs and the Lions Club donated money for activities while the students are here. Pot Luck Dinner Rachel Toeppen is coordinating a pot luck dinner for Thursday, April 26. Melanie Karsen will translate a video about Sevres to be shown at the event. The hope is that the families involved in the high school exchange would attend. There will be an informational display about Sister Cities so attendees can learn more about the Commission and what we do. It was decided that the event would be Bring your own Wine and the Commission would provide coffee, tea, lemonade and water. Free will donations would be collected at the door. It was suggested that French bread be on the tables. Perhaps Jewel could donate. Commission members should have special nametags. Paul Seils offered to donate the centerpieces. Staffwill take registrations and keep track of what people are bringing. Chef Charles Tual can't attend, but will provide recipes. Each Commission member should bring an entree. The max attendance is 96. A raffle will also be held to collect additional funds. Brochure The Commission reviewed a draft of the informational brochure and provided comments. A motion was made and passed to not spend more that $700 on the printing of the brochure. Thanksgiving in October Mary Ann Sibrava reported that the date had been set for the Thanksgiving in October banquet, Thursday, October 26, 2006. She would be forming a subcommittee. She asked the Commission to approve a deposit for the banquet hall. The motion was made and passed. Mayor Wilks reported that she had invited Mayor Kosciusko-Morizet to attend the Sister Cities International Conference in Washington DC. She also reported that he had been appointed to the State Legislature. The meeting adjourned at 7:16 p.m.
