The meeting was called to order by Lil Floros. Minutes of the May 1, 1999 meeting were approved. 2. Financial report. Balance April 30, 1999: $6,205.42. 3. Welcome to Mount Prospect. Dale Draznin reported that the event was very positive with 40 -50 people attending. She suggested the commission think of a way to arrange the tables differently next time to make a better flow of traffic. 4. Veteran's Memorial. Lil read a letter from an Arlington Heights resident commending our village for making this memorial happen. Elmer Blasco thanked the SEC for assisting. He commented: "99% completed but 100% dedicated!" The foundation is 15 -18 thousand dollars short. 234 engraved stones are in place; 3 more have to be corrected. The stone program will continue for 90 days. Application blanks are at Lion's Park and Rec Plex. The picture of the memorial will be on our automobile's year 2000 sticker. 5. Do It Yourself Sousa. Laura reported that invitations went out to past participants and 67 people have responded that they will take part. Deadline has been extended for 2 weeks. Income is $535 and expenses $676 so far. There is a need for people to pass out programs. Lil secured 500 flags and Terri Pistone is in charge of passing them out at the event. Leo showed the commission an article in the "Music Instrumentalist" magazine concerning the Sousa program here in Mount Prospect. Steve Durlacher asked the commission about presenting 3 minutes of aerial pyrotechnic fireworks during the "Stars and Stripes Forever" costing $1500 with the park district and SEC sharing the cost. It was moved and approved. 6. Fourth of July Parade. Jill was absent but sent a report. Approximately 12 groups and businesses have taken advantage of the $200 stipend that the village offers for floats purchased from Associated Attractions. Jill has received 53 definite responses to date. No agreement has been made with Old Navy. Again, Jill is in need of volunteers. 7. River Trails event -- No report. 8. There will be no Home Town Days this year but Octoberfest is still on, Sept. 17 -18, 9. Note that there will be no July meeting. Next meeting will be held August 7, 1999.
