HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/04/1999 SEC minutesMOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION Minutes September 4, 1999 ATTENDING: Della Baldwin, Dale Draznin, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Martha Helm, Mike Janonis, Laura Luteri, Terri Pistone, Laury Youngquist, Marilyn Guenther 1. The meeting was called to order by Lit Floros. Minutes of the August 7, 1999 meeting were approved. 2. Financial report. Balance July 31, 1999: $5,639.04 3. River Trails Labor Day Event will be held Monday, September 6, 10:00 a.m. -3:00 p.m. at Woodland Trails Park. Terri thanked the Commission for financing the climbing wall. 4. The circus will be held September 10 -11 at Melas Park by the Jaycees and the Park Foundation. Thanks to Corky and Tom Dunn for putting up the posters, Flyers will be sent to the schools next week. 5. Celestial Celebration. Ticket request forms and tickets are printed. A Banquet meeting is scheduled for September 29 at the Floros'. 6. Shining Stars. Laura reported that requests are beginning to come in. 7. Welcome to Mount Prospect will be October 30. Notices will go out to new residents September 30. Dale will need help with the mailing. Terri Pistone offered park facilities for the event but it was felt that the Senior Center is the best location. 8. Marilyn Guenther, Executive Director of the Library, presented projects for Mount Prospect to become a Millennium Community. There will be three primary activities which will be geared toward children and will kick -off January 2000. a. The Library will coordinate the design of flyers depicting favorite things about the library. b. The Historical Society will coordinate a personal history about a child's house 50 years from now. c. The Village will coordinate the selection of photos of favorite places in the Village. Marilyn is requesting that the Special Events Commission take all the results and display them at an event in 2001. Contact persons from the Commission are Mike Janonis and Laury Youngquist. 9. It was decided to move meetings that fall on holiday weekends be scheduled for the second Saturday of the month. 10. Mike Janonis submitted a draft of ideas for Hometown Days 2000. Mike, Dale Draznin and Laury Youngquist will serve on this committee. 11. Fourth of July Parade suggestions: a. Earlier time - -Mike will check on times of other parades. b. Changing route -- making Central Road a narrower route. c. More bands. Ask Junior High Bands and commit bands earlier. Call schools right away.
