MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Minutes
February 12, 2000
ATTENDEES: Lit Floros, Leo Floros, Laura Luteri, Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher, Della Baldwin, Terri
Pistone, Linda Hoefert, Jill Friedrichs, Dale Draznin, Laury Youngquist, Martha Helm, Carole
Bloomquist
1. The meeting was called to order by Leo Floros in the Village Hall lunchroom. The minutes of the
January 8,2000, meeting were approved.
2. Financial Report: Cash balance as of February 11, 2000 - $7804.58. The Special Events receipts
totaled $27,070.00 with disbursements of $24,450.75. Leo & Lit stated there were a few outstanding
disbursements for flowers, frames, and imprinting of names on the Shining Star plaques which were not
included in the report. Thanks were given to Lit for her fundraising efforts.
3. Celestial Celebration: Positive comments were given by the majority of the Commission members.
4. Sister City: The Commission was given the following information on the activities tentatively
planned for the guests from Sevres France under a budget of$6000.:
Tuesday, May 16 - Guests arrive at Noon
Reception at Village Hall
Dinner
Wednesday, May 17 - Breakfast
Tour ofMt. Prospect, possibly on a trolley
Lunch with school children; possibly with French Club at Fairview School
or luncheon at Friendship Conservatory or Rob Roy
Banquet at Bristol Court*
Thursday, May 18 - Breakfast at hosts' homes
Tour of Chicago
Dinner
Friday, May 19 - Champagne Breakfast
Signing of Sister City agreement
Departure of guests
*Carole Bloomquist reportec;i on the plans for the banquet with a theme of "Our French Connection".
The cost of $25 per person for 300-500 people will include cocktails at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00 with
American style roast turkey, soup, salad, potatoes, apple pie and ice cream. Decorations are to be in red,
white, and blue with an ice carving of the Eiffel Tower and favors are hopefully to be crossed American
and French flag pins.
The following committees for the Sister City event were established:
