MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION
Minutes
September 1,2001
ATTENDEES: Lil Floros, Leo Floros, Dale Dramin, Janice Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Martha
Helm, Mike Janonis, Paul Seils, Laury Youngquist
Leo Floros called the meeting to order at 9:05 am. The minutes of the August 4, 2001,
meeting were approved. The Financial Report was presented and approved. It was noted
that there had been a $542 surplus from the 2001 Celestial Celebration and $10500 in total
donations.
Leo reported that due to other conflicts, Laura Luteri has resigned from the Commission.
However, the Do-It- Yourself Sousa and Shining Stars events will continue with the
assistance of Steve Durlacher. Mayor Farley sent a letter of appreciation to Laura.
Terri Schroeder, who is expecting a new baby in January, will also resign after the October
meeting
Welcome to Mt. Prospect: Dale Dramin reported that 400 new residents will be contacted for the
Fall event to be held on October 20. Dale hopes to send a mailing by September 15-20.
Arts/Crafts.2002: Laury Youngquist reported that she had contacted Madeline Franklin and will
meet with her during the week of September 3. The following suggestions were made, in addition
to coordinating the Fair with the Downtown Block Party:
1. Possible longer hours - 1 pm-7 pm, or 10 am-5 :00 pm
2. A different day from the Block Party
3. Use of the park area close to the Library
Mike Janonis will contact Bill Cooney.
2002 Celestial Celebration: Lil Floros announced that a cruise theme will be used for the
Celebration. The committee will be gathering soon and will report at the October Commission
meeting.
Christmas Parade -12/1 at 5:00 PM: Mike Janonis reported:
1. The parade will be coordinated with the Teddy Bear Walk & Park District and the
Historical Society Housewalk weekend.
2. The Lions Park Fieldhouse may be used as a warming house prior to step off of
the parade.
3. The reindeer unit will be contacted.
