TO EXPAND'-SERVICES WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF ~ .. ... " MOUNT PROSPECT [kEREAS, the Regional T ran sportationA uthori ty has s u bmi tIed their five-year I rogram for transportation improvements in the six county metropolitan area of 'Tortheastern Illinois (Fiscal years 1981 - 1985) for review; and \7JIEREAS, the President and Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect I ave an interest in seeking the general improvement of the public transportation Itetwork withinth~ ViII"ge of MountProspect and surrounding areas; and ImEREAS, the dowNtown commuter station area is congested as a result of I ommuter oriented traffic conflicting with local shopping, service and through i affic on Northwest Highway and Illinois Route 83 through the Village of ! /fount Prospect; and I lliEREAS, the commuter station in the Village of Mount Prospect has been ~ver"ging over 2 ,400 commuter trips per day by virtue of it proximity to major ,routes within the Village of Mount Prospect, and the large population Iconcentrâtion served by the station; and I I ' , ~"'HEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect has been seeking approval from the IKegional Transportation Authority to expend funds for commuter station Jmprovements, including the urgently needed extemnon of commuter platform ¡and the relocation of the commuter station in order to provide extended periods bf vehicular access at the grade crossings of Chicago and North Western kailway, Emerson Street, and Illinois Route 83 (Main Street) within the ~illage of Mount Prospect~ and I 1~"lHEREAS, the Village endeavors to improve the bus transit system of the ~egional Transportation Authority and NORTRAN throughout the Village of /'I°unt Prospect to compliment the commuter rail service and more adequately fe, erve the needs of senior citizens, handicapped, as well as low and moderate ~come households; and I ~". ~lFIEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect desires to improve vehicular parking ¡!in the vicinity of the commuter station and to provide for more energy-efficient ~eans of transportation. -> I !Now, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES bF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS: ¡SECTION ONE: The Village of Mount Prospect endorses the Regional Transportation IAuthority's addition of commuter rail feeder bus routes throughout the ¡Village of Mount Prospect as an important and necessary step in improving reOVerall transporta~on network. '¡SECTION TWO: The Village of Mount Prospect encourages the Regional Transporta OI \A.uthority to provide adequate services for the elderly and handicapped residents 1of the Village of Mount Prospect. , !SECTION THREE: The Village of Mount Prospect urges the Regional Transportation I II ,I II I! JI 1- ." ~, ~, " j ." --.-/ Authority to modify the five year work program so that the 1981-82 Regional Transportation Authority work program would include the extension of the commuter rail platform; relocation of the commuter rail station to improve the transportation system in the Village of l't'!ount Prospect and thereby reduce the energy consumption due to traffic congestion; and to improve the substandard station. SECTION FOUR: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law. PASSED this 20th day of May, 1980.
