MAYOR'S REPORT 3.1 PROCLAMATION: A Proclamation Honoring Marilyn Genther on her retirement from the • Prospect Public Library Proclamation - Marilyn Genther.pdf (17 KB) Administrative Content Executive Content https://go.boarddocs.com/il/vomp/Board.nsf/Private?open&login# A PROCLAMATION HONORING MARILYN GENTHER ON HER RETIRMENT FROM THE MOUNT PROSPECT PUBLIC LIBRARY WHEREAS, MARILYN GENTHER has served the Village of Mount Prospect community faithfully and with great distinction for over three decades, serving as Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Public Library and playing a vital role in the library's dedication to education, community service and engagement, exploration and growth; and WHEREAS, MARILYN GENTHER'S passion for service ignited early in her career; serving as a homebound outreach librarian in Cincinnati, she brought the library into people's homes and spread her compassion and enthusiasm, opening doors of opportunity to those in need; and WHEREAS, moving from Ohio to Indiana, MARILYN GENTHER continued her journey, landing a position with the Indianapolis -Marion County Public Library system as Reference Librarian where she attended conferences, workshops and chaired committees that provided the groundwork for her future accomplishments, paving a path that would ultimately lead her to Mount Prospect where she would remain for the next 33 years; and WHEREAS, MARILYN GENTHER accepted the position as Head of Adult Services for the Mount Prospect Public Library in 1986 and thus began an extraordinary and notable career that created opportunities, broke -down boundaries, advocated change and cultivated relationships within the community she so adored; and WHEREAS, through her leadership and dedication, MARILYN GENTHER was appointed Executive Director of the Mount Prospect Public Library in 1992, a position she would hold until her retirement; and WHEREAS, MARILYN GENTHER received numerous awards and honors throughout her career exemplifying her commitment to excellence including Mount Prospect Business Leader of the Year in 1993, Shining Star Recipient in 2008 and the Mount Prospect Chairman's Award in 2010; and WHEREAS, her leadership roles extended beyond the book -lined walls of the Mount Prospect Public Library, MARILYN GENTHER was active in several professional and service organizations including the American Library Association, Library Leadership and Management Association, Public Library Association, served on the Mount Prospect Chamber of Commerce Board, the Mount Prospect Historical Society Board, Sunrise Rotary Club Board and the United Way of Mount Prospect -Prospect Heights Board; and WHEREAS, MARILYN GENTHER will retire from service to the Village of Mount Prospect on June 30, 2019. NOW, THEREFORE; I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, May 21, 2019 as "MARILYN GENTHER DAY" in the Village of Mount Prospect and thank Marilyn for her 33 years of public service to the patrons of the Mount Prospect Public Library and the residents of the Village of Mount Prospect and wish her well in her retirement.
