MAYOR'S REPORT 3.1 PROCLAMATION: Recognizing the Innovative Achievements of the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team Public Information Administrative Content Executive Content https://www.boarddocs.com/il/vomp/Board.nsf/Private?open&login# 1/1 A PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING THE INNOVATI VE ACHIEVEMENTS OF THE LINCOLN MIDDLE SCHOOL ROBOTICS TEAM MOUNT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS WHEREAS, the mission of the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team is to introduce students to real-life engineering and science research by engaging and encouraging out-of--the-box thinking through fostering self-confidence, time management, communication, teamwork and leadership; and WHEREAS, under the mentorship of teacher Abbey Grabowski and the leadership of coaches David Roe and Ken Brey, the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team program follows the vision of FIRST, For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology and the FIRST Lego League designed to get children excited about science and technology; and WHEREAS, the Lincoln School Robotics Team focuses on community outreach and helps other kids learn about the FIRST Lego League; and WHEREAS, the young engineers of the Lincoln School Robotics Team have received top honors in robot competitions including: 1" place robot Performance at the Wildstang FLL Scrimmage, Champions Award at the Mount Prospect Regional "B " qualifier, 1" place Robot Performance Award and P' place Champion at the Illinois State Championship Tournament and a 2 place Robot Pes formance at the FRC Regional Championship; and WHEREAS, most notably, the Lincoln School Robotics Team earned a spot to compete in the World Robotics Championship beginning April 23 where over 100 teams from over 80 countries will compete in the largest robot competition in the world; they will be joined by over 10,000 team members and will entertain and amaze 40, 000 spectators during this four day event; and WHEREAS, the World Robotic Championship competition required the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team to research a real world problem and create solutions relating to the 2019 theme, INTO ORBIT; and WHEREAS, the Lincoln Middle School Robotic Team created a shrimp growing tank to feed astronauts in long duration space travel; and WHERAS, the team traveled across the Midwest to visit shrimp research facilities, commercial shrimp farms, researched with the National Aquaculture Association, NASA astronauts and the head NASA Nutritionist and worked with university aquaculture departments to develop their solution. Through their dedicated research, the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team obtained provisional patent.for their invention; and WHEREAS, the Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team, their mentors and coaches are commended for their imaginative and innovative skills; for providing a solid foundation to excel and develop into inspiring professionals who will make significant contributions in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics and a path to explore, discover and challenge the world that awaits these young students. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 16, 2019 as a day of recognition and celebration for the innovative achievements of the: "Lincoln Middle School Robotics Team" and wish them the best of luck as they make the journey to the World Robotic Championship where they will proudly represent the teachers, students and parents of Lincoln Middle School and the citizens of Mount Prospect.
