Information
Currently, the Fire Department has been utilizing a 2003 golf cart (Medic 13), which was donated in 2007 for EMS and
initial fire response at large attendance events. The golf cart (Medic 13) is aging and no longer meets the increased
response duties of the Fire Department. Besides emergency and non-emergency operational needs, the golf cart has
also been utilized for downtown events, all Prospect High School varsity football games, Burn Camp, National Night
Out, special events, parades, and Fourth of July Lions Fest. The Lions Club was soliciting ideas for donations from
their legacy funds so the Fire Department approached them with the idea of replacing the golf cart with a more
versatile and safe vehicle.
Earlier this year, the Fire Department discussed different options for large attendance events response and ATV/XUV
options. The Fire Department decided an ATV vehicle would provide greater latitude when responding to incidents at
large attendance events and other day to day responses such as a retention pond rescue. Based on a review of
options, the Fire Department strongly recommends replacing the existing golf cart with a John Deere Gator XUV. The
proposed John Deere Gator XUV would replace the existing golf cart and become Medic 13. It should be noted that
staff does not anticipate any increase in maintenance costs in going from a golf cart to a Gator. Both require an
annual preventative maintenance check and due to low mileage/seasonal use, new tires would not be needed for 10
years.
The John Deere XUV 825M from AHW LLC Somonauk, IL has a purchase cost of $16,588.58. The cost is on
government pricing thru the Illinois Association of County Board Members 14-04-00777-A (PG I2 CG 22). The
Village has used this Government bid process in the past; suggested retail price of this equipment is $19,289.04.
The Fire Department also looked into a similar Bobcat XUV vehicle. However, the Bobcat did not have government/bid
competitive pricing like the John Deere Model staff is interested in purchasing.

Delivery of the John Deere Gator XUV 825M is expected in 4-8 weeks. Staff does not have a planned use for the
existing 2003 golf cart at this time.
Alternatives
1. Approve purchase of John Deere Gator XUV 825M, Trailer and Skid with funds donated by the Mount Prospect Lions
Club.
2. Action at discretion of Village Board.
Staff Recommendation
Staff recommends the Village Board approval of the purchase of John Deere Gator (XUV 825M), transport trailer, rear
EMS skid unit, and associated Decals/Lettering for a total of not to exceed $23,288.58. The purchase is to be offset by
a donation by the Mount Prospect Lions Club.
