MAYOR'S REPORT 3.2 PROCLAMATION: National Safe Boating Week N May 19-25, 2018 Public Discussion Administrative Content Executive Content https://www.boarddocs.com/il/vomp/Board.nsf/Private?open&login 1/1 PROCLAMATION "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" May 19 - 25, 2018 WHEREAS, National Safe Boating Week is part of the North American Safe Boating Campaign, which unites the efforts of a wide variety of boating safety advocates, including the United States Coast Guard, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and the National Safe Boating Council; and WHEREAS, on average, 600 people die each year in boat -related accidents in the U.S.; approximately 84% of these are jatalities caused by drowning; and WHEREAS, the vast majority of these accidents are caused by human error or poor Judgment and not by the boat, equipment, or environmental factors; and WHEREAS, a significant number of boaters who lose their lives by drowning each year would be alive today had they worn their lifejackets; and WHEREAS, today's life jackets are more comfortable, more attractive, and more wearable than styles of years past and deserve afresh look by today's boating public. NOW, THEREFOREā€ž I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby support the goals of the Safe Boating Campaingn and proclaim the week of May 19-25, 2018 as "NATIONAL SAFE BOATING WEEK" and the start of the year-round effort to proompt safe boating in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I urge all residents to who participate in boating related activities to practice safe boating habits and to wear a life jacket at all times when boating.
